Last words Last week, Richard Cartwright was executed in Huntsville, Texas. There were questions about the legitimacy of Cartwright's death sentence (especially in light of claims by his co-defendant that Cartright didn't do it) but that is not the purpose of this blog entry. Rather, the purpose of this entry is to share a few of Richard's final thoughts in a message he wrote days before his execution. Richard wrote the following: I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, this fight is not about one man. Therefore this fight is not over with one man’s death. It ain’t over with 100 men’s deaths, or 1000 for that matter. This fight is not over until the death penalty is completely abolished in the USA, and the rest of the world. Totally abolished is when the fight is over. When we no longer kill in the name of justice, then the fight is over. As I take this walk towards my death I do it with a good friend of mine, Bryan Wolfe, who has a date for May 18th, the day before my own date. We are neighbors now and we have had some pretty wild and crazy talks about what is going down, but most on our minds is the pain and suffering our families are going through. And here I thought we were all cold blooded and heartless killers, eh? HA!HAH!HA! I have to laugh at that, because I’ve met some very loving and caring people behind these walls. It is just like in the free world. There are good and bad everywhere. You cannot possibly write off a group of people as evil and heartless. source: capitaldefenseweekly.com/archives/050523.htm

What an amazing man he was. He truly is so very missed. Miles

Rich was (IS) an incredible man. It's to bad there isn't more men like him!! He was the one to change my views on the DP!! I will forever thank him for opening my eyes. I think of him often and what could have been going on in his head while walking to his own death!! For his Mother ....i think we all felt her pain..may GOD Bless her and Ricky and everyone that was touched by Rich. He was and always will be the most intellegent, honest, caring, loving man I will ever come across in a million life times. Truth will prevail,His name WILL be CLEARED. Rich was murdered by the state of Texas for a crime he DID NOT commit!!! For all you people that don't feel that way thats one thing but why can't you just let Rich RIP!!
Bless All!!

Hi again,
Alot of people say what a great guy richard cartwright was. I have a question, if he was so great and selfless, why wasn't he home with his pregnant lady instead of out robbing and doing drugs? Why did he have prior arrests? People say what a wonderful dad he was, how wonderful could he be from behind bars? A wonderful Dad would have done anything he could to be sure his unborn baby had the best possible chance at a good life. Not a life where Daddy is robbing people and doing drugs and being sentenced to die. How do these things he has done make him a selfless and great person? Please notice I did not bring up hs guilt or innocence or the murder, just the actual crime of doing drugs and robbery. A great selfless father to be would not be doing these things would he? My father sits on death row for the same things richard cartwright was there for. I do not glorify him and never will. His choices left me without a father my entire life. Having a father sitting behind bars waiting to die is not having a father at all. Do you people understand this? Do you understand what the children of prisoners have suffered? I don't think you do and I don't think you care.
Sandi

It sounds like you already know a bit about him, therefore, you probably already know why I will always defend him, so I won't explain. hugggz, Suzanne

suzanne, hon....i know you will fight for his name til the day you die...but, don't let it go on in this thread....it's supposed to be the guestbook...and people just keep wanting to drag his name throught he mud..and i know you are right there with sword in hand ready to stand up for him....but i think we all know the truth, and those who deny it will soon find out....
*hug*
