I posted something to Richard's Guestbook. It is not much, but I hope it will help. I posted it under my real name...

Hey, I heard something the other day. If you are for the death penalty for just one person you are still a pro, so if you agree with the death penalty but not for all cases, you are still pro.
I don't know if that makes you feel good or not, but it's meant to, so if it doesn't, let me know and I'll take it down.

I am for the Death Penalty. However, there are certain things that should not be done, and there is a thing called acceptable behaviour. I know that the Death Penalty is a very hot topic that is sure to create conflict. However, there are many other things to talk about as well...

I'll be defending Rich's name in that guestbook as long as it's up, I guess.

It was pretty obvious that rich was innocent. the fact that overstreet wrote a handwritten letter stating he "didn't mean to kill" the guy...and the fact that overstreet admitted that he purposely pointed richard to be the bad guy out of spite when in actuality he was "the forefront of all events"...Richard's remourse in his "final statement" was for the fact that he even allowed himself to be associated in such a situation...he doesnt deny being around those guys that night....but he was not at the scene when it happened, he was at the truck...there was not one shred of physical evidence against richard, it's pretty sick that texas does stuff like that... and to the person claiming he should have taken the plea....if you were accused of something and you didn't do it...and you were not familier iwth the workings of the justice system...just had the belief that the system really works...would you have plead? 40 years is a long time for a murder you didn't commit... 119 people have been exonerated from death row so far...they all had "a chance at a fair trial" yet still had to be exonerated, meaning that they WERE innocent....do you think it ends there? that 119 are the only ones innocent? or...that there weren't any innocent prior to their execution? if anyone reads this and believes that no one innocent has been executed, then you are very naive...and hate to break it to people, but 1 innocent person executed is 1 too many.....there is no room for error in this.....you can't bring them back.... what do you say to Cameron Todd Willingham's family?? "oops"? Todd proclaimed innocence for 12 years prior to execution...only for everyone to find out he was innocent, the same proof that said he was innocent released Earnest Willis from texas death row....so what does texas do about this? just shrug their shoulders and say "oh well...you win some you lose some?" this isn't about justice this is about political gain and none of the justice system cares about people's supposed "justice" they want their blood and they will get it whether the person is innocent or guilty....as long as they close their case, all is good.

Forty years is a long time...But at least you are ALIVE to fight. From everything I have read, from everything I have seen posted, Richard Cartwright was indeed guilty of firing the shots and even if he did not shoot, he was there and in conspiricy to rob and murder, which carries the same penalty... THe other guys just accepted a deal to keep their butts alive. All three were guilty...

No, Mike--I have the affidavits and the proof of his innocence. I have the complete record. Let's deal with reality vs. perception. The FACTS! Tina

I was wondering - if Richard HAD taken the plea - he would have to admit he was guilty right? So - he would be alive to fight - but would he even have something to fight with?? I don't think anyone would have listened to him laster when he was already sentenced to serve 40 years in prison... So to say he should have taken the plea is "easy" after the fact....

THe other guys just accepted a deal to keep their butts alive. All three were guilty... ok i am not trying to be mean but this is a very touchy subject to me...but i have no idea where you were reading, but there is absolutely no proof whatsoever that he fired any shots....his footprints were not found at the scene of the crime, however, there were footprints of both co-defendants and Nick....there was no blood stained clothing found with richard or anything of the sort...Nick Moraida's belongings were found in the posession of the co-defandant's girlfriend...yet she was not charged with felony receiving and distributing stolen property...why? because she testified for the prosecution....the gun was already decided to have been Kelly Overstreet's gun...and kelly overstreet had written a letter stating he had killed Nick Moraida....so, with that said...i don't think you have any proof whatsoever that Richard fired any shots... it really saddens me and sickens me that people continue to drag his name through the mud...Richard was a man of integrity...and a man of solid character, EVERYONE who knew him agreed.... I know suzanne posted the links to the evidence page that shows the discrepencies in Richard's case, i didn't even list them all....anyone can read them for themselves....and i am sure tina has even more than just what i mentioned....

Paleone, I understand exactly how you feel If I wasn't banned at the Crazy Pros I would gladly debate his case of actual innocence, but Doc can't stand a one on one battle. He had his side-kick Jasen (definite Akins claim) try it, but the poor guy (bless his heart) didn't quite understand. Paleone, don't let their hate penetrate your soul. I would like to debate the infamous you know who, (Judas), but she can't handle it. Tina

Rich was innocent. We know this. Pros don't like to think of anyone being innocent executed so it's hard for them to admit (sorry Mike, I still love you though).
Jennie, it is so great your here to help fight to keep Rich's name good. You and I both know how honest Rich was along with Tina. Rich was not a liar.
Mike, another thing that make Rich's execution bad, is yes, Rich was a part of the robbery, however, that is not what Rich was executed for. Rich was executed for shooting Nick. So what if he was a part of the robbery. It wasn't justice.
If I believed in the death penalty, at least I'd want them to be executed for something that they did and not for something that they didn't do. That's not justice to get someone just so they can execute one of the guys, esp. being that Rich wasn't the shooter. If he was going to be executed for something he did do, he should have been executed for being a part of the robbery which caused Nick's murder, however, that is not what he was executed for.
I don't believe in the death penalty and the argument that I've seen people saying that at least they got Rich (one out of the three), whether or not he shot them is a poor argument. It's really a scary thought that they did that to Rich, therefore they can do that to anyone, including you mike, myself, my kids....

Tina i don't really let it penetrate my soul....sometimes it just really blows my mind that people would make such a statement that they claim that it is obvious he is guilty...i think they just want to explain it away to themselves to make themselves believe it so that they can still justify the death penalty....if they begin to realize an innocent person was executed, then it would prove it is a flawed justice system, and it may put a kink in the system they seem to trust so much to "keep them safe" i love how my husband put it: It has come to my mind that as americans, we embrace the idea of capital punishment, because this is the only way to "clean up the streets".. the nation lacks a sense of assurance in our judicial/prison system to believe that violent and repeat offenders can remain off the street. however where the lack of understanding is: how can we sit here and trust that same judicial/prison system to take the life of a man/woman, when we can't even trust it to keep us "safe"..
