I did talk to a recruiter for that school district but was told that I was not qualified because I was not certified to teach in Texas...When I checked on Team8 certification, I was told I would be a student-teacher in a district in Texas, and be paid $24k a year...almost $15k less than what I make now... I decided not too...

The topic is Clint Young's writing... As I said in a previous post. he does about as well as an incomming college freshman that I get out here. And I think I posted that I was courious if the people on death row could get an education. I was told that was very expensive... But what about a GED or High School Diploma through the Windham School District...Which is all of TDCJ? Welp, maybe that's your problem...you want to know one thing, but research something totally different.

I did a scan of the Windham School District... It seems that students have to attend class...I could not find if in-cell programs existed...I would think that study materials would be a thing that they could have to at least begin an education...
However, I am not certain if those things cost money or are provided. I would think that the District could afford a few GED texts...
However, Windham does offer a large number of vocational programs and instruction through high school... So a person, if they are motivated, could be a better person when they came out...

"Writing is a community effort." Dr Mark Edmonds If you are going to write for an audience, you need to choose the words and syntax that will lend weight to your position. Words are often more cutting than razors, hotter than a blast furnace, and that is why they are so powerful... Ideas are even more powerful than words... Mike.. I really would like to know how many "english teacher" the most people on death row have had the chance to meet in their lives.... I would thank god if they had had one.... I don't think he wish to be considered a professional writer... he's giving us the chance to see a GREAT job started from Richard... be continued... and we can only thank him for this... I think I can forgive some grammar mistake...

Like I said in other places...Writing takes time... Dr Edmonds, who I quoted, was one of my English teachers... He had to write a memo for some suits in Admin at the college...he had several collegues look at it...It was perfect...until the secretary typing it found a mistake they missed...All PhDs in English and Composition... It is not easy to write...But he is trying and will get better as time goes on...

I forgot to mention...If a student e-mails him, he grades it. He hates computers... The first e-mail he received was from a professor across the hall...wanting to know if he was going outside to smoke cigarettes soon...

Death row inmates are not allowed to attend Windham school or even have in cell instructions. Death row inmates are not allowed any type of schooling unless they pay for it themselves through correspondence schools. 2. I want to explain why I read uncensored. I thrive to read anything and everything I can about the goings on at Polunsky. That is where my husband lives and I know he doesn't tell me everything because he doesn't want to worry me. I want to know what is going on in his world. I want to know which guards are good and which arn't (By the way, I'm glad Wickersham is gone. I guess that petition that was passed around a while ago worked?) I don't care what education level he has, I don't care if his grammar is good or anything. I just want to know what is going on where my husband lives. Any news, any word be it written or verbal from other family members. I hang on to the words. Do you think he writes because he wants people to see how "intelligent" he is? NOOOO... he is writing to voice his opinion, to let the world know what is going on in that place. To even get messages out to loved ones. It's a tool to communicate. Don't critique his writing.... read the words and listen to what he is saying.

I fail to see a need to waste funds on death row inmates, general population non violent offenders should by all means be offered some form of rehabilatation if they so desire. The money spent on educating those on death row however is a waste.Do we really care if a dead guy has a high school diploma? These funds would be best spent on education for non criminal offenders in the hopes that a few of them may benefit and dodge the life of crime that leads to needle tracks.

JoJo,
May I ask if you could tour the prison that your husband is on? Would that help you to see what it is like? Do you think that is possible?
Regards,
Mike

I am often asked by my students to proofread their papers...I do not mind at all and I am happy to do it...The grade I gave was fair... It takes time and effort to write, especially if you do not know how your audience will receive it... Definitely not PhD material.

1 deterrence - the act or process of discouraging actions or preventing occurrences by instilling fear or doubt or anxiety (it can't discourage the person who has already committed the crime from committing the crime) So the DP is not deterrence. Its bloodlust and anger. It is also a punishment. That is right--we are angry.
