Do you think that killing a Cop should be any different than killing any other person?
IMO I don't think so. Why is killing a cop any different than killing a plumber, a banker, or the person that sacks your groceries? A cop is doing the job that they get paid for. When you become a banker you know that there is a risk of some idiot robbing the bank. When you become a bull rider you know very well that the bull just might do you in. A miner knows that there can be a cave in at any given minute. A cop knows the risks when he signs on. Just the same as any other person does.
Why is a cop any more special than the plumber that fixes our leaking pipes, or the people that wash windows on the sky scrapers, or the Dr that fixed my hand?
What do you think?

i think that humans by nature are corrupt. so i do not feel that all cops should be held in some special pedastle to act as though they are the "good guys"...when in actuality they do many many corrupt things....sure, some are true to their job and upstanding citizens...and i know many people have killed cops in just plain cold blood....but there are also times when cops do things completely out of protocal and put themselves in danger by default...like the ones who go into something without backup, or the ones who get gunhappy and start waving their gun not knowing fully what they are getting into...not to mention the ones that beat down a suspect, that right there will get SOMEONE angry...
they should not be treated as a higher form of person because they are "protecting us"...what's really sad is i saw a thing on the news where they had video cameras up in bad neighborhoods and monitored it, when a crime happened, they'd call the police and see what the response time was...a lady's home was broken into, and the cops showed up 3 hours later...what if that lady had been beaten or something? raped? where were her "protectors"? also, there was something on the news recently about a shooting/robbery at a restaurant i used to go to when i lived in southwest detroit....it happened around 10 pm and the cops did not show up until 6 am...what kind of crap is that?! i used to live there, the precinct was oh.....maybe 5 blocks away..i mean this wasn't even JUST a robbery, there were shots fired...luckily no one died!
don't get me wrong, i know cops are needed and do in fact do good, but someone's crime or sentence should not be any more because of that...

A life is a life, whether it be that of a homeless person or a police officer. When one chooses to accept a position as a police officer, the risks are well known. Despite that fact, the number of officers who lose their lives in the line of duty are relatively few. A more dangerous profession would be that of a cab driver.

Dear Kathy, Not only do i believe that the sentence should be the same regardless of what the victim does for a living: I also object to all these victim statements in sentencing hearings because it means that a person who is killed and loved by a hundred people is going to result in a tougher sentence than somebody who may not be loved by anybody.
I should point out that this bull is not allowed in English courts.
There is an effort by a few to introduce seperate degrees of murder in this country but I intend to do my job and write a report looking at why this is not a proper thing to be done under English Law.
Love and hugs, Judy

Simple, a cop is an agent of the state and is therefore provided protections and immunities that the normal everyday citizen (I prefer peon) is not allowed to receive. Want proof? Walk up to Joe Snuffy on the street and sock him in the mouth. You get charged with misdemeanor battery. Sock a cop in the mouth and it's felony assault of a police officer or government employee. Note the distinction?

Mo-DAWG The state does have to keep the guard dogs happy, as the guard dogs are the only line of defense the state has to prevent a peoples revolution. One of the ways to keep the guard dogs happy is to enforce stiffer penalties on the populace when a peon bucks up to the authority. NC has a statute on the books that allows for a person to lawfully physically resist an unlawful arrest. Sounds good in theory, but....think long and hard on it. If you are being unlawfully arrested by a jackbooted thug and you fight back, the thug is only going to call for backup and when they show up, you will get beat down and hauled off to jail and if the fighting escalates, you will be dead and the thugs will walk free under that all-encompassing umbrella catchphrase: "officer safety".

Note the distinction? I think a cop is meant to be a representative of society where the banker and plumber are private citizens. Note the legal distinction only applies when they are on duty or when the crime relates to their work. If a cop gets murdered because of an interpersonal stoush with his/her spouse then in that case I doubt it would matter

The majority of the Pigs spend the majority of their time sitting on their ass eating Donuts and drinking Coffee. Thus the saying Bad Cop No Donut!
When the baby pigs are born they look and act just like all the other non piggy babies. They grow up and decide on which profession they want as a career. Just as the non piggy babies have done. The big difference is, now all the non piggy babies are expected to bow down to the Pigs. Why??? Because they are "protecting"their fellow citizens? That is pure crap! A Lawyer is protecting, a Plumber is serving, What would our lives be without Electricians? Pretty darn dark if ya ask me!
I have no respect for Pigs! They are mean, cruel people that can not work without having the big gun and tin badge to back them up!People that become cops are control freaks!

I don't like police, who I refer to as The Jackboot Thug Stormtroopers of the State, but in their defense, a cop, just like a felon, just like an "ordinary" person has an inherent right to protect themselves by any and all means against an aggressor.
Unfortunately, more times than not, that cop is the aggressor.
