You know Mike, if you could find out a way that those guys could take the GED test, you would be doing something that would mean a whole lot to a whole lot of people, on the inside and out.
Even offering to tutor them through the mail would be something.
Just my 2 cents worth of thought

Why spend money educating a person you are going to kill? That is like putting $500 rims on car that is setting in the junkyard waiting to be crushed.

Because of self-estem for the inmate. It can make them more able to read and write.

Becouse we always hope they can get their sentence overturned.. Even if it shouldn't happen,, why not to use the time in prison in a comely way? As far as they can better themselves... Prison should be used to rehabilitate.. before than to kill people... Maybe, they could, for the first time, do something they have never had the chance to do when out.... Life is precious, they should use the time left the best way i think.

I am all for my tax dollars being spent making prisons more humane. However, why spend money educating those on the row? The DP is not about rehabilitation.

This is what I would give them if I was in charge. I think DR inmates have a right to nutritious food. I think they have a right not to be beaten or otherwise mistreated. I think they should have the right a lawyer. I think that they should be allowed a small number of visits. I am willing to compromise and give them the right to send and recieve mail. I am also willing to compromise and allow them to order a special last meal. I think that they should be allowed to make a last statement. I will also compromise and give them the right to choose LI as oppossed to other methods such as the chair or the chamber. I would allow them to donate organs and be executed in a manner consistant with perserving those organs. I would not spend money on educating them because resources are limited and should be used to help those who can productivly use their education in the future. DR inmates are there to do one thing: Die

They need to be educated to so that they are able to help themselves in all ways to make sure proper justice was served, to help with their appeals, etc...... Once on death row doesn't mean the end for them. They have their appeals to go through and for those innocent (which there are, otherwise, they wouldn't have the appeal process in the first place) can hopefully prove themselves innocent before their 8 years are up.
