Mother's Day Is One Of The Most Difficult For One Upstate Mom www.fox21.comSunday, May 8, 2005 Mother's day is usually a day of celebration with your family but what if one your family members was missing? Tonight one mother tells Fox all she wants for this mother's day is for her son to finally come home. Seventeen year old Alex Davon Buckman has been missing since March 24th. His family believes someone kidnapped him. His mother Genny says, "I don't believe he just disappeared and don't nobody know nothing, somebody knows something." The Buckman family says it's more than just a coincidence that Davon placed his friend at the scene of a murder and now he's gone. They believe this man, Ralph Fleming, who has since turned himself in on unrelated charges may have wanted to keep Davon quiet. Davon's mother has one message for the people responsible for her son's disappearance. "Let their conscience be their guide and tell me where Davon is at, bring him back to me." But today has been one of the hardest days so far and it's made her realize that every moment with your children truly does count. "I would say to mothers now on mother's day, go hug your son because I never thought in many many years that I would never see my son again." For more information on how you can help the Buckman family, there will be a gathering for him on June 4th at 5pm. It will be held at the New Faith International Church at 197 Boundary Drive in Spartanburg, SC 29305. All donations will go towards a reward for any information that leads his whereabouts. www.fox21.com/Global/story.asp?S=3316381

Tabitha still missing but not forgotten By IAN DEMSKY Staff Writer Saturday, 04/30/05 Metro police seek leads 2 years after teen vanished On the surface, nothing has changed. Tabitha Tuders has not come home after disappearing on the way to her bus stop in east Nashville two years ago yesterday. Nobody knows what happened to her. Or, assuming the ''worst-case scenario,'' as investigators now do, at least one person knows the story. And that person isn't talking. ''It's like it was from day one,'' her mother, Debra Tuders, said this week. ''No one can seem to find anything to lead us to her.'' Beneath the surface, 23 binders and folders, which occupy an entire cabinet at Metro police headquarters, show that investigators have not given up, despite having little to publicly show for their efforts. Without physical evidence or solid leads from witnesses, searching for Tabitha has been a monumental task. If someone in a car abducted the 13-year-old on the morning of April 29, by the time police began searching for her after school let out, she could have been anywhere in Tennessee or in one of 13 other states. Youngsters just don't go missing and stay missing in Nashville very often, police say. Department figures show that last year 145 youths were reported missing and 56 were reported kidnapped or taken as part of a custodial dispute. All those cases have been solved. Of the almost 1,600 runaways reported last year, 28 cases remain open, police said. The police department, then led by interim chief Deborah Faulkner, was highly criticized in 2003 for initially treating Tabitha more like a runaway case than a victim of foul play. Some have speculated that her handling of the case damaged her candidacy for the chief's job, now held by Ronal Serpas. Since the day Tabitha vanished, the highly publicized case has been beset with rumors, speculation and theory. Family members were given polygraph tests. Police searched surrounding neighborhoods with cadaver dogs. Detectives hunted down and questioned area sex offenders. America's Most Wanted aired a segment on the case. NASA lent its high-tech video technology to analyze surveillance images from a local hotel security camera thought to show the teen. Sometimes armed with only a nickname to go on, investigators followed lead after lead after lead. At several points, officers thought they had sure things, only to have them suddenly turn into dead ends, police said. One thick folder is dedicated solely to the Tabitha lookalikes police have tracked down and made sure were not the missing girl. Printed out, the investigators' log summarizing each day's developments in the case — who they talked to, tips that came in, Tabitha sightings from across the country, psychics offering visions, houses that had been searched — comes to more than 250 pages and is being updated almost daily. Recently, the department's most experienced homicide investigators have begun going back through the case, looking for unturned stones. Earlier this year, the Metro Police Department's homicide unit was tasked with investigating ''cold cases'' as detectives in the six precincts tackled more killings. ''We're bringing a different set of eyes to the case,'' homicide detective Pat Postiglione said. Cold-case detectives would like to see Tabitha walk through the door at 1312 Lillian St., safe and sound, but work the investigation under a ''worst-case scenario.'' ''Two years without a word — that's not a good sign,'' Postiglione said. Faye Okert, a detective from the Police Department's Youth Services Division who has been involved with the case from early on, will continue her work on the case. In a recent interview, she had little to say about the avenues that police explored and developments in the case over past year. ''Some things are less likely than a year ago,'' she said, but would not elaborate. Still, investigators agree that every day the likelihood of Tabitha returning home alive diminishes. Even so, they want to bring her home, and bring closure to the family — and the city — no matter what the circumstance. www.tennessean.com/local/archives/0...ent_ID=68933470

Bradley Sisters/Found Bones: Forensics Rule Out Link Experts: Bones Belong To White Or Hispanic Teen UPDATED: 5:36 pm CDT May 5, 2005 CHICAGO -- Investigators may have ruled out a link between human bones found on Chicago's South Side and two high-profile missing children cases. Forensic experts say the bones are those of a white or Hispanic girl in her early teens. That would rule out a connection to either Tionda or Diamond Bradley, sisters who disappeared in July of 2001 from their South Side home. Also, teeth recovered with the remains do not match the dental records of Rachel Mellon, another victim of an unsolved investigation. www.nbc5.com/news/4455548/detail.ht...994&dppid=65193

Missing boy calls friend, cops say `I'm just happy he called someone,' relieved mother says By Charles Sheehan and Jamie Francisco Tribune staff reporters Published April 22, 2005 A 13-year-old boy who disappeared three days ago called a friend Thursday who then contacted the boy's mother to report the teen is fine and has not been abducted, a Chicago police spokesman said. Sgt. Robert Cargie said police talked to the friend, who said she received a call Thursday from missing Alberto Torres, and to Alberto's mother. Alberto told his contact he is staying with friends, Cargie said. "I'm just hoping for a call and hoping he comes home, but at least someone heard from him," said Alberto's mother, Elizabeth Reyes. "I'm just happy he called someone, and she called me to let me know, and hopefully he's going to come home." Alberto was last seen by a crossing guard on Chicago Avenue about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on the way to school, minutes after he left home. Reyes reported him missing later that day. "Our investigation continues," Cargie said. "Based on his contact, hopefully we'll find him shortly." After Reyes reported her son missing, she said: "He didn't run away. He's never late to school, never gets home late. He's a really quiet kid who gets A's and B's. ... Usually, he's on the honor roll." Alberto normally left for school a little early to serve on a school traffic patrol, which is posted at different points around Carpenter Elementary School in West Town. Reyes said the family is very close. Her parents and younger sister live below her and her husband. Two of Reyes' sisters live within several blocks, and other family members are frequently around. School officials called Reyes' home Tuesday to say he had not shown up, but the relative who answered the call does not speak English and did not understand the message, said Reyes, 33. The family realized the boy was missing only after 3 p.m., when he did not show up to pick up his younger brother from an after-school program, Reyes said. Family members searched the neighborhood for nearly two hours before calling police. "It was so hard for us to believe," Reyes said. "He's not allowed to go anywhere without a family member." Carpenter Principal Aida Munoz, a school psychologist and caseworker spoke to 7th and 8th graders about student safety, and the Chicago Public Schools made its crisis-intervention unit available, district spokesman Mike Vaughn said. "I've been so protective of him for reasons like this," Reyes said. "I've told him if he ever felt afraid to come to me, he could go to anyone in the family." www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/n...calnearwest-hed

Two years later, no leads on missing Chisholm girl June 14, 2005 CHISHOLM, MINN. -- Two years after the disappearance of 5-year-old Leanna (Beaner) Warner, officials don't have any promising leads left to search for the girl. Abducted June 14, 2003, Leanna was last seen walking alone about a block from her home. Since then, police have tracked thousands of leads and come up with next to nothing. Chisholm Police Chief Scott Erickson said an occasional lead still comes in, but there's nothing concrete. "We're just hoping to get that little piece of the puzzle that will break this case wide open," Erickson said. "All I can say is that we're not giving up." Chris and Lois Warner said they hope that Tuesday's anniversary will put the spotlight back on the case. They believe any publicity could help them find their daughter. Chris Warner said he believes Beaner is not dead but is instead living out of state or abroad. "She's out there somewhere," he said. The Warner family is asking the public to download pictures of their daughter from www.findbeaner.org and distribute them. The pictures are more recent than photos distributed in the past. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Chisholm Police Department at 1-218-254-7915. www.startribune.com/stories/462/545...p5nd6sldthor8k5

Sheriff hopes Kansas trash pits yield remains of missing girls June 14 2005 TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Craig County Sheriff Jimmie Sooter says the search for two missing Welch girls will begin Monday in southeastern Kansas. The search was triggered by the alleged confession suspected serial killer Jeremy Jones from Miami who's now jailed in Alabama. Authorities will use cadaver dog and radar to search mining pits near Galena, Kansas, for the remains of Ashley Freeman and Lauria (LORI) Bible. The two were 16 when they disappeared in December 1999 after Freeman's parents were found shot to death in their burned mobile home. Bible had spent the night with the Freeman's. The sheriff says Jones told him in an interview at the Mobile, Alabama, jail that he shot Freeman's parents and burned the trailer, then offered to help the girls as they ran from the flames. Jones says he then took the girls to southeastern Kansas, shot them and threw the bodies in a pit. Jones isn't charged in the Oklahoma case but is charged with murder in Alabama, Louisiana and Georgia. www.kokh25.com/uploads/local/oklaho.../20af71fa.shtml
