Well prison rules state that you must be over 18 to right to prisoners. I'm not sure if your mum writing it with you would make a difference. It may do.

Prison rules state that you must be 18 unless its your parent you are writing to. Its generally a good rule. Not everyone on death rows is a good person of course; some are scam artists and also its a very emotional endeavor to write to someone sentenced to death. Its just not a good idea for someone to write until they are an adult with the experiences of an adult. If your mother was to write a prisoner; that of course is fine; but you should wait til you are 18. In the meantime there is a lot of activist work that can be ; done with students; schools and in educating the next generation of voters. There are some parents writing prisoners where the family is involved in including notes or art etc; but it is the parent who is writing the prisoner not the teen.

Would they check up on that though? If a person under 18 wrote a letter to an inmate, would anyone actually check how old the writer really was?

Mailrooms do read correspondences. And all letters from prisons are stamped with a note saying they come from a correctional facility and the parents would see that if the prisoner wrote back. Like most things that are available for adults; there is always the possibility of a young person finding their way around something; thats why parents need to be aware of what their kids are doing. The internet is full of things that could be a danger to kids - we need to teach them to use it critically and to be aware of what our kids are doing. Bourney's parents are aware and proud of his work against the DP.... Bourney will wait the 4 and a half years; and write to prisoners when he is 18 - even though he is more mature than most 20 year olds - its still not appropriate to write DR prisoners now... til then he will keep busy helping to save lives! and educate against the DP....

They're are definately scam artists in prison. One thing I'm frequently told by prisoners and exprisoners is that prison isn't really rehab, because usually, you learn how to become a better criminal. So you really need to be aware of that no matter how old you are.

I think everyone agree that none under 18 should write to inmates.... bot now.. suddenly... this thing seem to be the most dangerous thing in the world for people under 18... There are many other things expecially on the internet that childredn should stay away from... there might be pedophiles who can also dicover your address and come to your home. There are porn movies availbble to download; there are sites about "mass suicide", where people plan how and when to suicide... I mean... now, ONLY CCADP is dangerous for people under 18? This is the point... we should worry about this, but no more than about other stuffs that children can find on the internet. Inmates are locked down, pedophiles for example "work" on the internet and contact the children. Internet acces should be password protected, and PARENTS should take care of WHAT their children look at in the internet. If parents can not do this... well... I am sorry, but then, they will have to pay consequences for their blunder. We can not delete the internet from the universe, but we can ask parents to APPLY THEIR mission... just take care about their children. This is what parents are for.
