Can anyone answer this? I got it via email and thought I would put it to you guys who are in Europe and are more familiar with this....I am about to send her an invite to join us here at the board; in the meantime - your suggestions?
Hi there, First of all i want to say what a fantastic job you do. After looking at your site, it inspired me to write to someone, as i knew from what i read, that DR can be so lonely, Basically, i wrote to some one in texas and offered to send him some money to help with stamps etc, hes sent me back some payment slips to a trust fund, but basically i'm not sure how to use them, do i take them to a bank? i don't understand how they work as your not supposed to send any money with them. I would be grateful if you could perhaps fill me in on how to use them. by the way i'm in the uk. Thanks Nicky

Hey! I am italian, but I think it works almost the same all over Europe.. I had many problems to send money over there and every single state has his own rules.. anyway, this is what I found out about texas: it comes from an italian association who works on sending money to inmates in USA and this is what they say: TEXAS: International cheque sent to: INMATE TRUST FUND P.O. Box 60 HUNTSVILLE, TX 77342-0060
The international cheque must be addressed: For: (first name + last name) #number International cheque must be sent to the same address with a deposit slip. Deposits slips come from the Trust Fund, only inmates have them... so, our friend will have to send us these deposit slips. International cheque + money slip ( money slips can be also more than one) must be sent by mail, priority mail, registered letter or private courier. You can also bring them personally to the address... cheques must be in american dollars. This process is valid for all inmates, women or men, death row inmates or general population. For the cheques of 500 dollars or more, they will cash it, but it will be put on a "block funds" for about 2 months, just to be sure that cheque will be paied. Hope it can help, hugs, Ela

Hi Nicky, , i send money to DR in Florida through Western Union and it's put into the imates account more or less straight away the same day if you send it before 8pm. The phone number is 0800 833833 or www.ukmoneytransfer.com the only thing that annoys me is that it costs£10 to send £20 by phone, but it is secure and very fast and you could use it to send to Texas or anywhere if you don't mind the heavy commission. You could use this route until you find another way which is what i'm doing in the meantime, best of luck Mo.

Do you mean Western Union? I would think so altho as i say i've only used it for Florida. 0800 is a freephone number in the UK , no harm in phoning them to ask.

What I do is order American Express Travellers Cheques from the Bank in dollars - minimum fee of £3 I then sign them at the bank and then make out the cheque to the Inmate Trust fund specifying my penpal's name I then sign the bottom and date then post off with the Inmate Trust fund slip
I've found this to be the cheapest way - I think the money is then available from the end of the month
Hope this helps
