Is it illegal to write to the people on death-row in Florida? It said on the page that the whole thing was banned or something.. So if I want to write someone there,is there anything else I can write in the first letter to excplaine how I found their adress and all that?

Its not a thing to worry about actually - you can say that CCADP told you about them Its a prison rule they are trying to include people asking for penpals in the same rule that bans them from running a business. Its no problem tho; people are writing all the time and no prisoners have expressed a concern or got in trouble... proceed !

Hi Marie, I started writing to a man in Florida last November and in the first paragraph mentioned i'd seen his ad. in the CCADP web pages. It was only after i'd posted the letter off that i saw the notice saying that Florida were not allowing prisoners to advertise for penpals. However, within 2 weeks i receceived a reply back, my letter had got passed the mailroom no problem, and so far, fingers crossed, have'nt had any hassles at all with correspondence. Good luck, love Mo.

Hi,
I'm a member of a mailing list particularly for death row in Florida. They have a website, and since the owner of the list is located in Florida, they can't post penpal ads on their website.
However, there are other groups - like CCADP and others that post the ads anyway, and you don't need to be to specific when you write how you found the ad. If you just tell that you found "an ad" - it could be "any ad" for what the mailroom knows - or you could simply say that "you were made aware of" that this individual wanted a penpal.
It will go through the mailroom. No problem. I can assure you.
Love, Turid
