Evidence against congressman seems solidJune 7, 2006 Regarding the recently alleged misdeeds of U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., I have some questions. If the FBI does indeed have an actual tape of Jefferson accepting a bribe, and if indeed they found supposedly "marked" bills in Mr. Jefferson's freezer, then why was a raid to his office on the Hill necessary at all? It seems like a lot of irrefutable proof to me. But the biggest question is with all this evidence. Why hasn't he been charged with anything? That's a real mystery to me, especially when I compare it with the fact that they sent Scott Peterson to death row with no physical or material evidence at all. SUE HARRIS Elmira

[glow=red,2,300][/glow] Hi Happy Haddock! So you want to know why? Because the government of the USA are big fat. money hungry, greedy mongers . Look at Gary Condit, the EX- Congressman from of all places Modesto, Ca. Now he had an affair going on with the woman that was found dead in Washington, DC. Chandra Levy. He also had Mark Geragos who I think is a terrible attorney. You don't see Mr. Condit on death row. There was no more evidence for Scott than Gary Condit. I feel that those tapes should have never been let in. What they did was make Scott look bad. They made the jury dislike him all the more and just because Scott was cheating on his wife doesn't make him a murderer. Alot of dumb people :owere picked for that jury. They :omanaged to get the juror who was the doctor/lawyer off the case because he took notes and wanted to go over them. Now that is what jurors should do Take notes and ask questions. This juror wasn't even given a chance. Those tapes sure did the trick though and made the jury hate Scott even more. His cheating was no big deal to me. I know so many men and women who cheat alot worse than Scott. Everything about Scott's case is unfair. He was convicted by a court of public opinion. I felt as if I were living in the days of the puritans. That lynch mob outside the courthouse I believe would have killed Scott had they been able to get close to him. Maybe they would "tar and feather" him and drag him by horse down a dirt road and then stone him to death. That's what the atmosphere seemed like to me the day Scott was found guilty. We have a horrible justice system. The system does NOT work as I have heard so many people say. There is nothing fair about it. One guy gets life for a brutal murder of say three people and he gets life. Scott Peterson, who I say is NOT GUILTY - (they never proved a thing) gets the death penalty at San Quentin. What is good for one person isn't good for another. It's not right and it all makes me hate the American system. Personally I could care less about any politician including Bill Jefferson - he probably has a nickname of Billy boy Andrea313

Hi Happy Haddock! So you want to know why? . . . Andrea313 I forwarded that as an example of how Peterson is becoming the poster boy for conviction without evidence. You can find the original letter in the link (in the title line).
