MVS = Murder Victim Survivor
The Other Victims = Family/Friends of Death Row Inmates
Well, it's really no contest. It's not even a contest. I don't know why people even think of them as such. They are 2 totally different things and NOT ONE is better than the other.
I'm both an MVS and the Other Victim.
The reason I'm an MVS is my boyfriend was murdered. I also had 2 friend who were murdered and my greatgranddad was killed in the line of duty (I don't know if the latter qualifies me being that I wasn't even though of, but I heard about it throughout my life and I've heard of other MVS's claiming to be MVS in similar situations, however, I'm not going to claim that situation.....only the one where my boyfriend, a man I loved was murder).
Of course, everyone knows I'm the other victim being that my dear friend, Richard Cartwright was executed.
Being that I'm both, I can varify that both are very similar, the pain, the hurt, the grieving....and both deserve respect, not one less then the other.
A good example of people "assuming" one deserves less is the hateful e mails I received from various pros before and after Rich was executed. Also, the guestbook of Rich's with messages on it that his Mother reads is very uncalled for and very hateful. I know those comments do not represent all pros, however, not all who read those think the way I do.
What about those who read the posts who don't know the difference between a pro and a "hateful" pro? Esp. if they are pro themselves? Or maybe they are undecisive about the death penalty? Welp, that's points for us antis....I'm sure the viewing audience gets my meaning.
hugggggz,
Suzanne
(The reason I have to repeat being an MVS is to make sure people don't come up to me and say "what about the victim's family" in my support for abolishing the death penalty. That way people will know that I KNOW what's it's like from the MVS, therefore, I shouldn't have to explain myself.....)
