Bush may have the chance to nominate 4 Supreme Court Justices. With Justice Sandra Day O'Connor stepping down, and Chief Justice Renquist having throat cancer, the stage is set for a very conservative court... And Supreme Court Justices serve for years after the President that placed them there...Renquist has been a Justice for 33 years... Plus 4 more conservative justices would swing the court to a 6-3 split...

Bush only has 3 more years. There will be other presidents and other Supreme Court Justices. They all can't live forever.

True, but their impact is still felt even today. Think of the first Chief Justice, John Marshall...He gave the Court Judicial Review... Other Justices have made similar impacts in many other areas of American Law... For example, Gideon v. Wainwright or Miranda v. Arizona...
