Today I read on the internet that the cost of an execution by letal injection is $63.43. Does anyone know if this is correct?
Bless All!

According to the various emails I have recieved from the NC Dept of Corrections our executions run in the neighborhood of $87.00.This is of coarse the price of the procedure only.As I understand it this cost covers only the drugs and the minimal cost of the few staff members involved in the execution itself (i.e.the executioners).

These are the rough costs of these drugs in England:
Thiopental Sodium £3.06p ($5.30c) for 500mgs. Enough for five executions. Pancuronium 65p ($1.10c) for 2mgs. Probably need 20mgs though so about $11 Potassium Chloride About £1.50p ($2.50c) for 200mgs in 10mls Probably need 1gms so $12.50c Plus IV Solution About £3 ($5)
plus needles etc $5.50c so a total in England would be about $35.
Any cost extra to this is due to the greed of drug companies and the government who does its best to keep their profits as high as possible.

were the drugs in some states at one point in time bought from hospitals/health centres until such a time as human right groups put some sort of stop to it.??

I am told that it is about $80 in Nevada where my DR pp is. I guess they figure it is cheaper to execute than house them in tiny cells and feed them (if you can call it food). What a sick society.....

The cost of drugs used in the murder of a human being is relatively inexpensive, especially the generic drugs that I'm quite certain are used: much more cost efficient.
Insofar, as thinking it is less expensive to kill than house a death row prisoner, well, it is, in fact, a great deal more costly having the death penalty than not. The costs of appeals is extremely high, and, in the most severe cases, LWOP is far less expensive than the death penalty. The death penalty, apart from a quick kill with drugs, is vastly less cost efficient. Clearly, the only purpose it serves if a sick societal vengeance.

That is about right. Texas is one of the states, which are self supporting. Not money from the government.
