Thought for the Day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research... This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them. ;D

Dear Miles, The first thing that they should research is why so many people are being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease who do not have it. This is not just my opinion but a fact that is supported by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Alzheimer's disease is one of two recognised types of Pre-Senile Dementia, onset is generally between the ages of 45 and 55, though it can be up to five years younger or five years older. From onset to death is usually no more than fifteen years. This means that the condition is normally set in no late than 65 in the most extreme limit cases, normally 60 and death occurs between 55 and 75 but normally between 60 and 70.
Alzheimer's disease is not a condition that effects the elderly as far as onset goes and over 90% of the people diagnosed with it, actually have Senile Dementia. Alzheimer's disease is actualy one of the rarest diseases in the world and affects less than one in a thousand people.
Love and hugs, Judy

well thank you for that.
The thought of the day wasn't meant to be an insult. I'm sorry you felt it necessary to give us a forensic analysis of this dreadful disease.
No insult intended.

Dear Miles, It is not you that offends me at all. Your post was humourus. What annoys me is doctors using a diagnosis that is irrelevant to the patient, simply because it has become unfashionable to tell people that their relative has senile dementia. Alzheimer's is a trully devastating illness and effects a number of middle aged people, it is an area that is desperately underfunded because they know what causes it, you cannot actually accurately diagnose it, except post-mortem and there is no cure possible. Alzheimer's is caused by a build up of aluminium in the brain, which is only detectable during an autopsy. I am only knowldegable about it as I am among other things a Registered Nurse (Mental Health) (General) (Learning Disabilities) (Dental) and my biological father was a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. It is something that seems to cause people little concern but maybe they would be concerned if they knew that it effects about one percent of people. Rsearch into Senile Dementia is also sorely lacking and that will effect about 60% of all people. Love and hugs, Judy
