Gidday from Australia. I am new in this forum. I am here because i have recently decided to write to a death row Inmate. I have chosen 1 male & 1 female to correspond with. I am a christian woman in my late 30's & have asked for a penpal with similar faith. I am a member of AA & have been sober 6yrs & for the past 2yrs have been attending the womens prisons here in Adelaide on behalf of AA for a chat with some of the women. I have found the experience extremly rewarding as i too was a bit of a rough diamond in my day I was wondering if anyone has any good advise on writing my first letter. All i can think of is 'to be myself & let that shine right on through'

All i can think of is 'to be myself & let that shine right on through' Hi Girldownunder, welcome. Girldownunder doesn't sound like a very happy nic. You should have chosen Girlaccomplished, since you got help for a drinking problem, and have accomplished being sober for 6 years! Congratulations on that! I chose the nic pumpkinpie on here because I work in a bakery and pumpkin pie is my favorate. A first letter to someone would pretty much just be an introduction. Kind of like the introduction you just posted on here. The only thing I wouldn't do is ask them why they are in their, or what crime they've commited, or anything like that. I was just kind of in that same predicament recently, because I just wrote a lady on death row for the first time and I had to write an introduction. After she wrote back, when I wrote back the second time it was much easier. The first letter is kind of the most awkward one to write, because you wonder what to say. Maybe start the first one out with a card that's blank inside, instead of paper. That's what I did. Then you don't have to write much in that first letter, and the gesture appears friendly. Well, have fun writing your letters!

Thanks for the advise & warm welcome pumkinpie. Yes well i suppose girldownunder is a little drab!! It could do with a bit of spicing up but i figured that it lets others know where i am from as a majority of members here are from the states. A blank card sounds like the way to go, thanks pumpkinpie. Ps. That pumpkinpie sounds delious. I love my mom's home made pumkin soup & roast pumkin is my favourate. Cheers...

I wrote an introductory letter to someone on Nevada's death row. Have not had a reply yet. Probably not enough time has elapsed. However.... I did not ask what that person did. But being on death row kind of speaks for itself. Any ideas on how I could look it up?

Maybe just type in case against, bla bla(their name) in Nevada, and something might pop up.
