At one time I thought the possibilty of people who are not guilty getting the Death Penalty was unusual, let alone actually having it administered.
But researching the facts has shown otherwise.
Alarming and unpleasant to think about.
The death penalty needs to be ended Jaguar

Welcome Jaguar,
I'm a Newby as well!
Can't quite make up my mind about the dp but found your postings to be very interesting.
Welcome again!

Peter,
I just believe in the old concept of reasonable doubt, and rather let a really bad person get a long sentance, then execute someone then find out they really were not guilty as charged.
Not valueing fair play and justice in the courts is part of a larger coarsening of society. Even helping a single innocent person helps to hold back or reverse the tide. jaguar

Jaguar,
Your point is well taken.
If there was no 'reasonable doubt', however, would your stance on the dp remain the same?

Not a DP case, but look at "James Henry Reyos" and ask yourself what sort of system can convict someone and maintain the conviction while admitting that he would have to average over 111 MPH continuously over terrible roads for 4 hours to commit the crime - and still would have had no time to actually murder anyone. It is fortunate Reyos did not get the DP in this case. When prejudice overcomes common sense, where is the justice? Where?

An eye for an eye? Those days should be long gone. Do innocent people get convicted? YES. Do guilty people get off scott free? YES. How very unfortunite. YES. As far as i see it, those who take a life legally are no different from the ones who take a life illegally. "Thou shall not kill" It's that simple. girldownunder
