Just realized now that I haven't introduce myself. :)Many probably recognize my nickname from the posts I've left. For those of you who want to know a little about the person behind the nick name...here it is: My name is Marina - 22yrs of age - from Hamilton, Ontario - soon to become a member of CCADP (yea Tracy, I'm sending out my membership tomorrow *smile*).
While reading the posts on this board I realized that most of the people here have their own story; they are either family or friends of someone on DR or they basically want to help ABOLISH the death penalty. I am a friend........
Well I have my own special story about someone that has become my strength, my hope and my reason for fighting the awful "killing machine", that is the death penalty. Above all, he has become my true friend. He's name is Richard Michael Cartwright. Most of you know Rich from his Uncensored articles, some of you had the chance to write to him or even meet him. I will always remember Rich as my friend and NEVER as 'an inmate on DR'.
I came upon one of Rich's websites put up by who other than CCADP. THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU GAVE RICH AND ARE STILL GIVING HIS MOM AND DAUGHTER!
Got carried away there so back on track: It was Rich's personal message to his daughter Ricki Marie that caught my eye even before I saw all those pictures of the two of them. It was the smiles on his face and his daughter's that opened my arms and welcomed them in my life. I wasn't aware of Rich's conviction and to be honest I wasn't concerned of what it was. I felt that HE WAS INNOCENT from the love he had for his daughter that could be seen in his eyes. I believe in HIS INNOCENT even to this day! There was no doubt in my mind about contacting him. I e-mailed a message to him and soon after that I was reading his first letter. That was the start of a friendship that has brought my life so much happiness, so much hope, strength and peace. God knows that I've tried everything in my power to help Rich and his family. I wish I'd done and said more to change the outcome. I couldn't save my dear friend, but God knows that he saved me. What can be said about Richard, the Son and the Father? For his Mom Irene, he is "the best son a mother ever had" and I am sure Ricki would say that he's the greatest Daddy!
I will tell you something tho about Richard THE FRIEND. Richard was the GREATEST friend that a person can have. He was always willing to listen and keep you in hight spirits. He was a true friend with a heart of gold. He was funny, talented and full of life. Rich is someone that always put others before himself. When I talked to him on the phone on May 19th he was comforting me, letting me know how much my friendship ment to him and how greatful he was. I should have been the one comforting him! He was right there 'beside me' through all the hardship and I will forever cheris his friendship and help. What can you say about a man who's only hours away from his death yet he is concerned about others? I remember him asking me wanting to know if I was allright and if things are ok...that's how caring Rich was! He was the greatest and truest friend!
I will always be greatful to Rich for giving me the opportunity to help out. I didn't pay much attention to death penalty, but my friend opened my eyes and made me realize of all that craziness. I will continue to help others and that way I will keep Rich's memory and wish alive and also I'll keep my promise to him.
Thank you Rich for letting me be a part of your life and for giving me the opportunity to meet your wonderful mom. You, Irene and your greatest joy Ricki have become a part of me and my family. I love you all! You have also opened a path to new friendships: Hugs to Missy and "Tickle Bugs"
To all of you on this board: May God bless you! LET'S ALL FIGHT TO ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY!
