My name is Joe,
I'm here because after learning of the conditions on DR (just recently) i am appalled! I cannot believe we as American's have such a system in place this day in age. This was brought to my attention i think from searching the Scott Peterson case, but i am not sure. Somehow i came across the Lori Berenson case as well- her being wrongfully imprisoned in Peru and have since been captivated by the abuse throughout the US prison systems.
I am for humane treatment for all. I feel the prison terms in the US are way to long for starters. I am fully against the DP. To take a life especially without hardcore evidence is insane and in my opinion ignorant, stupid and rediculous. How it has been in place to this day, I have no clue. I never realized we had people in power today that would think that this is acceptable to us citizens. Which brings me to my thought that the conditions, abuses and what i seem to consider a form of torture (small cells, lock up for 23hrs, no human contact, cold meals, gassings, no rehabilitation, bullsh*t levels I, II & III, no TV's in some places, etc) is only taking place today because its a semi secret to the public. If the public was aware of these inhumane conditions I feel things would change. And change fast.
I want to send my codolences to all the victims, thier families and the condemmed/families as well, fore this is a difficult situation for everyone.
Public awareness for a loving World is possible, difficult and semi acheivable. We must accept what we can't change but fight for what we can! This madness of the US prison system is insane, abusive and must change.
Maybe instead of 12 jurors we need 24 for serious cases so the innocent dont slip thru the cracks. And nobody should be sentenced to a long term for just being there, the one who committs the crime yes, but not for just being there, this is rediculous, it doesn't even make sense, what are we suppose to just accept this bs? We must speak to our polictians, congress people or somebody that can chage these laws, shorten sentences and offer rehabilitation to all offenders. Thanks
