Hi everyone! I thought it was high time I registered and introduced myself...I've been lurking for quite some time My name is Joy, I'm 39 years old, and am married with 7 children, and 3 grandchildren. We live in Michigan, along the Lake St. Clair. I recently lost a dear friend, Doug Roberts, on April 20, 2005...to lethal injection in the State of Texas. I had been corresponding with Doug for 8 years, and am deeply saddened at having to say good bye to him. I'm finding this grieving process very difficult. It's hard to find closure. Doug was truly a wonderful person. Intelligent, humorous, insightful, caring. Knowing that Doug was at peace with his own death in the end has brought me peace also. I'm saddened at the way our judicial system is run in America. It's just not right. -- Joy

Hey Joy..... what a great name!!!!! I am sorry to hear of your loss. I was able to help out with his funeral expenses and he was sweet enough to write me and thank me. (his lawyer sent him a list of those that contributed) It broke my heart reading his letter because in it he kept repeating that he wanted me to know that no matter what society thought, he wasn't a monster. It was SO important for me to know that he wasn't a monster. I just wish I had enough time to write him back and let him know that I knew that. His one letter said a lot. Welcome Joy

I've also lost a friend to execution. I'd known him for about 5 years, but we were never as close as you and Doug seem to have been. Still - it's hard to deal with it. So I can only imagine what you must feel having lost someone to this utter madness and terror called Justice in Texas. It saddens me to hear about your loss, and I hope you can find comfort and understanding on this board. Here are many who have experienced the same as you have, and it was a very good idea for you to sign up. Take great care of yourself now. I understand you've got lots of responsibilities with 7 children and 3 grandchidren, but I sure hope you will take time to have some good cries and heal! Hugs, Turid

Dear Peanut, Hello there i am pleased to meet you. So sorry to hear you lost a dear friend to execution, it's so wrong. I've a friend who has been on DR in Florida 14 years, i dread his appeals failing. If it comes to the worst Joy maybe you could advise me on the right things to say to give him solace as i feel i'll be at a loss for words. Look forward to getting to know you, all the best, love Mo
