Hi, a 'small' introduction.
Im catskillz from the netherlands, 28 yrs. male adult (? . I have no other relationship to prisoners / the prison system other than that i've been following the topics for quite some time now through the inet. I haven't been really active in posting on various boards (at leat not untill now), because i did like to see first for myself if it really had my attention instead of being just an attraction by fascination, as you encounter regularly while surfing the net. No doubt it started out like that in some way, but somewhere along the line i got struck by the harsh reality and innocent lives affected by the DP/CP system and by the way it is applied.
The CP debate may be one of the most controversial ones due to all emotions involved. Emotions don't always provide the best context for arguments and judgement but yet is it inescapable.
The reasons im against the DP are various
- allthough i think the majority of ppl on DR are guilty, innocent peope are excecuted, since there is no guarantee that not a single innocent person is excecuted, no one should be excecuted
- the families and loved ones who are also made to suffer for the extensive amount of time untill the excecution (the fact that this would be caused by either the condemned or the CP system doesnt really matter.. of course there will also be suffering from lwop, but i think this is somewhat different)
- key factors for being sent to DR are being poor, black and subsequently have bad representation at trial, since often the trial is the only opportunity to present a proper defense (like that rediculous 30 day rule), this is a serious flaw
- i think the conditions on most DR's can be described as cruel and inhumane; the things i think of are social isolation, not having creative possibilities, non-contact visit, no music/radio/tv
- the lengty time of incarceration in these conditions is inhumane
- the fact that childeren are executed and being regarded as non rehabitable
I think these points are based on facts, sure there will be people that think this situation is ok to them, but than just say it instead of hiding behind false arguments that in the end make misuse of all the people involved.
By stating this im not disrespecting victims rights or feelings. I am not saying they should be let of easily.
From a pure theortical point of view, i can think of a situation where i would not reject a death sentence, the conditions i would set however would be so extensive that i cant think of anyone that would qualify.
To end, i'm a non-religious person, working and i hold a BA in information science and IT management. Big music freak both listening and producing.
A scratch of the surface, back to the underworld.
