Hi all. I am so glad to be here, to share finally thoughts with those who feel as I do. My name is Sharon and I live in Eastern Ontario...Canada.
Now is as good a time as any to tell you all how I got here, because I am guessing you understand why I am here.
I started work at a new job over a year ago. Of all the places I had worked, this was the most unfriendly, unhappy place ever. Still, there was one guy, "Joe", I will call him who was a bright spark in all of this. He impressed me with his sincerity, kindness, gentleness and loving nature. We had many things in common and soon developed a fine friendship. We talked, we shared important things, we felt at ease in each other's company.
And then the world changed. We were all shocked to hear that he had been charged with 1st degree murder. Of all the people in the world that I knew, it seemed impossible! It was in looking for information about how to write him that I came across the CCADP website and I cried many times as I read how cruel we can be to our fellow man.
I was moved to write 2 inmates on DR, one in Florida, one in Texas. Wonderful men, both of them, both of whom admit their guilt. Men with life stories, as are those whom you write to that would break your heart. Men, who like all of us want love and happiness. Men who have received their last meal, have been marched down the aisle only to get a "stay" at the last moment in what must be the most demoralizing situation possible. How does one find happiness in such a place?
I try to bring some light and love into their lives and they bring much to mine. I fight the deep sorrow and hopelessness of it all and they bring me back. A letter from any of them gives me the warm fuzzies and a smile. They are still alive!
As for "Joe", he doesnt remember killing anyone. Having had a problem with alcohol and drugs for many years. Did he? To me, it doesnt matter. Here we dont have a death penalty and it will be many months before his case is decided. I can tell when he is feeling down , being locked away from his 2 yr old son, fighting for his sanity and self respect in a system designed to crush the human spirit.
Murderers arent purely evil. They are our brothers, our fathers, our friends. They are a part of us. Our family. There is no one among us who hasnt made bad choices.
Were all on this spaceship Earth together. Some things need to be fixed. Ane they will be. They will be. They WILL be!!
Glad to meet you all. And thank you. For everything.
In Peace and Oneness....sharon
