By Ayanna McPhail TELEGRAPH STAFF WRITER
WARNER ROBINS - The Houston County District Attorney is seeking the death penalty for a Warner Robins man accused in the beating death of his 78-year-old mother, Geneva Smith.
Ray Carlos Smith of Warner Robins was re-indicted Tuesday on charges of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of thefts by receiving stolen property.
He allegedly beat his mother using his hands and feet, an indictment stated. He was also indicted on two counts of aggravated battery - one count for allegedly kicking her and breaking her ribs and the second count for allegedly striking her in the head, the indictment said.
An autopsy found that she died of blunt force trauma. Smith was originally indicted last October on murder charges, but the new indictment includes the death penalty charge.
Smith was also indicted on a charge of theft by receiving stolen property. He had been driving a pickup that had been stolen from Gwinnett County.
