A message from Bob Nave, Director, Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death
Penalty
-------------------
Hello Fellow Abolitionists,
Please read and then forward this far and wide - post this where
ever you can - URGENT!!!!
I will be contacting you many times in the next few weeks, so please
bear with me.
As you know, we are now at a crisis in Connecticut. We are facing an
imminent execution on May 11th. Whereas the execution was stopped in
January, with the competency hearing concluded last Friday and the
judges ruling that Michael Ross is competent, the execution is going
to take place at 2:01 a.m. on May 11th.
Furthermore, there is now a snowball effect - at least one other
death row inmate has given up his appeals, with talk of another
following suit. Also, Connecticut will become the first state in the
northeast to execute post-Furman. This is a precedent that is going
to be devastating so we are gearing up for a huge demonstration.
To that end, the Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty
(CNADP) (www.cnadp.org), (www.DontKillInMyNameCT.org) is holding a
vigil/walk from Sunday, May 8, beginning at 2:01 p.m. in Hartford
and concluding 60 hours later on Wednesday, May 11 at 2:01 a.m. at
the site of the execution 30 miles away. We will be holding a large
initial demonstration/vigil at 2:01 p.m. in Hartford with a vigil on
Monday night and then again on Tuesday night, with smaller events on
Monday and Tuesday at noon.
We need as many people to be involved with this as possible.
Everybody is welcome to take part in this event in part or in its
entirety. More details will soon follow. However, for now we need
two things beyond individual participation.
1. We need MONEY - we are working on less than $1,000 and if
we do not get major funding we will not be able to mobilize
properly. If possible, please make checks payable to "CNADP" and
please do so quickly if you are able. Please mail donations to
CNADP, 32 Grand Street, Hartford CT 06106.
2. Below is a "DREAM TEAM" of people that we would like to get
involved. We welcome their participation in may ways - they can
issue a statement, come to Connecticut for a part of this event, or
join us for the entire event. If you know any of them, or if you
know of anybody who has contact with any of them, please CONTACT
THEM IMMEDIATELY. Please have them contact me ASAP at
robertnave@cnadp.org or at (203) 206-9854. This may sound crazy, but
if everybody takes the initiative and begins contacting people, we
can certainly get some of these great people to come and join us in
our struggle. We have no money to offer them, so this would have to
be done for the cause - and considering the gravity of the
situation, they may be willing to make this sacrifice. (This list is
not complete and is a work in progress - please feel free to add
appropriate people to this list.)
Please don't be shy at this time - this is one of the most major and
urgent human rights abuses that Connecticut has seen in more than a
generation. We cannot stand by and let this happen without our voice
being heard!!!!!
Please check the list below and contact these people or me for
further detail.

Finally, Pope Benedict XVI was instrumental in changing the Catholic

penalty. If we could get a letter from him to the Board of Pardon's

would be fantastic. He could ask for this to be granted in honor of
his elevation. If anybody has any connections to the Vatican this
would be great.
Thank you all!!!
