Cooper granted month extension for appeal
Death Row inmate Kevin Cooper has until Oct. 3 to ask a panel of federal judges for permission to again appeal his conviction. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals this week granted Cooper a 30 day extension to prepare his request, despite the objection of prosecutors.
Cooper wants to appeal a recent lower court ruling upholding his conviction for a 1983 quadruple murder in Chino Hills. Before he can do so, he must first get permission from the 9th U.S. Circuit court, the panel of federal judges representing the western United States.
Cooper alleges police framed him for the killings. His appeals have repeatedly been denied.
