BOISE, Idaho — A Boise man convicted earlier this month of killing his former girlfriend's 2-year-old girl in 2003 will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Ignacio "Jesse" Sanchez won't be eligible for parole, according to his sentence in Idaho's 4th District Court.
He was convicted Aug. 6 of beating Evangelina Azteca Atencio Leija.
He'd been caring for the girl because her mother was in the Ada County Jail on methamphetamine-related charges.
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for Sanchez, but jurors opted against capital punishment.
An autopsy found at least 63 bruises to the girl's torso, with others on her head and neck.
Prosecutors say Sanchez jumped on the girl.
