NO to the Death Penalty ---- International Campaign
------------------------------------------------------------------
Fabianus Tibo (60 years old)
Dominggus da Silva (42 years old)
Marinus Riwu (48 years old)
Indonesia
Sentenced to death
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Their Story
Fabianus, Dominggus and Marinus, Indonesian Christians, living in the Isle
of Sulawesi, were arrested in the year 2000. They were accused of several
killings during bloodstained religious uprising in the town of Poso the
same year. On April 5th 2001 they were sentenced to death by the regional
court of Palu. On December 20th 2001, the Declaration of Malino put an end
to the conflict, in which a plenty of the local population was actually
involved. The three men, who are poor and illiterate people, are probably
just scapegoats as after the emergence of new evidences, it is not sure
indeed they are the material executioners of the killings. At the same
time, the instigators of the hard disorders in Poso are still unknown up
to now. The appeal trial has been set on March 9th 2006. Actually, their
execution, supported by people who could be interested in sweeping away
the source of the Posos riots, might be impending day after day.
The appeal to save Fabianus, Dominggus and Marinus
The Community of SantEgidio urges everybody to share its appeal aiming to
spare from the execution the lives of Fabianus, Dominggus and Marianus,
sending the following statement to the competent authorities of Indonesia
by e-mail or fax.
Urgent appeal brought out by the Community of SantEgidio to save the
lives of Fabianus, Dominggus and Marinus, sentenced to death
Your Excellency
I am writing to express my deep concern over a ruling that sentenced to
death Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marinus Riwu, without taking
into consideration new emerging evidences on their side as well as
without unveil the real accountable people particularly the instigators-
of the bloodstained events of Poso.
I urge you to intervene on their behalf to prevent this cruel and inhuman
punishment from being meted out against them.
I implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence is not
carried out
Respectfully Yours
