Another circumstantial case, where the guy gets the death penalty, what a shame. And I'm so sorry it happened to your brother! Take care, and thanks for posting this. His website is nice. I wish Brett and your family, all the best, and hope for the real truth to unravel it's way someday...so your brother is saved!

The 10 year anniversary of Brett's wrongful conviction is rapidly approaching.
I was hoping that there may be a few members willing to send him a postcard...a view of the world so to speak. So please; feel free to repost or email this request.
If any of you know Brett, he will try to write and thank everyone.
We all know what a hardship that is on an inmate.
To avoid that, please do not include your address.
Brett Hartmann #357-869
878 Coitsville Hubbard Rd.
Youngstown Oh 44505
Please let me thank everyone in advance, your help and support is greatly appreciated.
I hope it is okay to post this request...if not, accept my apology. I did try to check the rules on posting and did not see anything related

I didn't give my return address, I just signed my first name. Yes, that was me! I did a post-card project for a few death row inmates, signing my first name only and keeping it anonymous. A member on here suggested it, and I did it. I had bought an extra post-card, and that same day I bought the post-cards I saw this thread you posted, so I sent an extra one to Brett. I guess he must have liked it since now you are suggesting others do the same!

This is funny...Brett had told me about getting a postcard just recently...it was driving him nuts that there was no return address...that's him...wanting to write back to say thanks. So...on behalf of Brett, let me extend his appreciation...and I will in return, let him know that you have been thanked. I am chuckling to myself.

I just received a letter from Brett saying he has sent some of the postcards on to Mom to hold for him. I have mailed Mom and asked her to send me the names so we can continue to update this listing of people who have so generously contributed their time to helping uplift Brett's spirits. I can tell it has made a difference!
I'd also like to include the following names; Cheryl Carol (Canada) Carol (S.C.) Stela (Portugal)
I guess I should have warned him to keep a running list...that's my DUH. Again, many thanks!

The post card campaign is still going...seems to have taken on a life of it's own. Now people are sending cards of support to our mother also. Just incredible. Thank you to everyone! Brett's case as it stands; 8 inmates join lethal injection challenge lawsuit.Associated Press "COLUMBUS: A judge has allowed eight additional Ohio death row inmates — including one from Summit County — to join a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the state's lethal injection procedures. U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost said in a ruling Friday the inmates fall within a deadline for joining the lawsuit. The ruling brings to 28 the number of condemned inmates challenging the injection process, or about 15 percent of the 185 inmates on death row. Because an appeals court has ruled differently on the deadline issue, the U.S. Supreme Court must decide that matter before inmates can argue about constitutional matters. The inmates are Michael Turner (Franklin County), Melvin Bonnell (Cuyahoga County), Maurice Mason (Marion County), Michael Beuke (Hamilton County), Michael Benge (Butler County), Richard Nields (Hamilton County), Roderick Davie (Trumbull County) and Brett Hartman (Summit County). Hartman is on Ohio's death row for killing Wanda Snipes, a 41-year-old hotel cook, in September 1997." www.ohio.com/news/ohio/15695812.htmlUS 6th Circuit Court of Appeals"US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upholds Brett Hartman conviction and death sentence A three-judge panel (Daughtrey, Gilman, Clay) of the US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals today affirmed the conviction and death sentence of Ohio death row inmate Brett Hartman, rejecting claims of ineffective assistance of counsel (on the merits), improper jury instructions, prosecutorial misconduct, and insufficient evidence to support a capital specification. Judge Clay dissented in part and would have voided the death sentence and remanded the case for a new sentencing hearing because of ineffective assistance of counsel in presenting mitigation evidence at the trial sentencing phase, and because of improper "aquittal first" jury instructions."
