Hello All A couple of days ago I caught a glimps of a new story about some lady who strangled all 5 children and was found not guilty. It was hard to get the whole story as my babies were crying for their dinner but I think she was sentenced to death previously and had the sentence overturned Can someone tell me the name of this lady and maybe post a link on the case? Thankyou Jo

She didn't strangle her five children, she drowned them in the bathtub. And her name is Andrea Yates. She was never sentenced to death. She was found guilty, and was suppose to serve a life sentence in prison. But she just got a new trial, I guess because she is extremely mentally sick, so she will now be serving a life sentence in a mental hospital. Yeah, she's sick alright, no doubt about that! My opinion on this case is not a nice one, so I'm not gonna say anymore.

Guys....Just remember she was "ILL". I know it was a disgusting "ACT", But.....this woman was on medications because her DR and her family knew there was a problem!! She was taken off her med's, everyone around her knew she would have these thoughts without her med's and with everything they knew from her past with PPD they chose to leave her alone with those children. I believe that if this Lady was kept on here medications and got the treatment she so in deed needed those 5 "Angels" would be here today!! I wish Ms.Yates the best, just think this woman lives with what she had done for the rest of her life. Bless All Alyce

I don't know, I hear what you say on both sides but I do feel that those who are so mentally ill and have been identified as such, should be more closely monitored in relation to childcare whether in relation to their own kids or others'. I would find it easier to forgive someone like that their sins, if they tried to hurt themselves as much as they hurt those small defenceless beings. Does anyone have information as to whether the woman hurt herself in anyway?

It's one thing to be suicidal, but to want to kill your own children or any child is unthinkable. I cant even imagine how anyone could have the frame of mind to do that.

There was a guy in Eastern Europe who cut off his own penis to win a bet (Jay Leno). Apparently he was a heavy gambler (I couldn't help wondering if it was a double or nothing bet). And he wasn't insane (I assume). My only question - if Andrea isn't crazy, who is? Every time they dope her up to the point where she becomes sane she remembers what she did and goes crazy again.

Sorry, I have no idea why that just happened. Do you agree with the verdict, Charlie? I logged onto the fratpack website you mentioned in the debate section!! But you are not the DJ with a talk show? Your name is just Charlie Tuna, right? Don't worry, I'm not gonna look you up or anything. You cant find out much with just a persons first and last name, unless you know the state they live in, and you don't have to tell me that. It's just nice to know your name is Charlie.

No, my name isn't really Charlie. I'm just going with the 'fish motif'. Yes, that was finally the right verdict. There are saner people than her living over steam grates and talking to invisible aliens.

Reading through the postings, seems the lady who killed her kids, didn't manage to do as thorough a job on herself if she stopped short of ending her own life. Still think that if a person is able to exercise sufficient control so as to preserve their ability to draw breath, then they are not as completely insane as one might assume ; clearly the preservation of one's own life being a basic human instinct of the totally SANE, kicks in just in time. That said, when I was suffering from post natal depression some 7 years ago and without the sympathetic support of my impatient spouse or of my family doctor, I kind of lost all sense of motherly gentility for a while there and can honestly say that my attitude towards my toddler when she was sick, was pretty cold and unfeeling. It was more about self preservation and concentrating on ME. I think insanity makes the human condition an essentially selfish one. Is it still the case that a sentence of death is avoided where insanity is proven at sentencing stage?

Thanks Alyce. I agree that PND is pretty misunderstood. I guess it gets bracketed in with PMT!! I wish I could turn back the clock and knew then, what i know now- I'd do things so differently. Hindsight is possibly the most annoying thing in the world!!

I've heard of post partum depression, - which occurs after you have a baby. But what is post natal depression? I've never heard of that.
