Scott Peterson case readied for appealsREDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 15 (UPI) -- Scott Peterson, convicted of the 2002 murder of his pregnant wife Laci and their unborn child, is now able to appeal his case to the higher California courts. On Friday, both sides in Peterson's 2004 murder trial in Redwood City, Calif., certified the transcript as accurate, a necessary step before his appeals can begin, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The appeals probably will take years, the Chronicle said. Peterson, 33, is on death row in San Quentin State Prison. After correcting errors in the transcript, including the spelling of domestic maven Martha Stewart's name, prosecutors and the defense team certified the record. Prosecutors and investigators then hugged and shook hands with court staff, bailiffs and the judge, the newspaper said. Lead defense attorney Mark Garagos was absent, but was the defense was represented by one of his assistants. Laci Peterson's mother, Sharon Rocha, took her familiar seat Friday in the front row of Courtroom 2M, the Chronicle said.

It's good news but I also think there is a serious flaw in our justice system whereby it took two years to certify the transcript. That's two full years of Scott's life wasted while they could have done this in a matter of days. How does the state plan to compensate Scott for all the years of his life they deprived him of while they stretch out this process to absurd lengths?

In Calif. they will pay $100 per day for wrongful conviction. IMO they should pay the rate they pay the state governor in every state.

One day that will be realized, imo. I'm just glad it's certified now. Some cases take numerous years for certification. Thankfully Scott has a strong support system in his family. They are all devoted to seeing Scott through this. IMO they keep him going.
