PETERSON FIGHTS INSURANCE RULING: Attorneys for convicted murderer Scott Peterson have challenged a judge's ruling that said the proceeds from a life insurance policy on Laci Peterson should go to her mother, Sharon Rocha of Modesto. A notice of appeal was lodged on Wednesday with the 5th District Court of Appeal in Fresno, according to court records. Peterson was sentenced to death a year ago after he was convicted of killing his wife and unborn son. Under state law, people who kill their spouses give up their inheritance rights. But Peterson maintains his innocence and would not give up his claim to the life insurance money while his conviction is appealed. In the life insurance case, Peterson's attorneys are seeking to overturn a December ruling by Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Roger Beauchesne, who said the proceeds of a $250,000 policy should go to Rocha. No hearings have been scheduled.http://www.modbee.com/local/story/11886368p-12656763c.html

I'm thrilled that Scott's lawyers are fighting this issue of the life insurance. There is absolutley no reason why that money can't be put into a trust and held there until Scott's appeals are heard. Sharon has taken everything of a monetary value away from him and his family and I don't think waiting for the appeal is asking too much from Sharon.
