I live in Texas, and have for the past 5 1/2 years. The people are wonderful, the cost of living where I live is low and we have 4 traffic lights. The town where I work has 2. We have a fully restored 1930's movie palace, with state of the art sound. It even has a balcony. But we also have the death penalty. It was in force in Florida, where I grew up, and Mississippi, where I went to grad school. If you do not like the law in those places, work at changing it. I am content out here with things the way it is. I have the chance to attend Texas Tech in a while for a PhD. This state is a land of opprotunity. All people need to do is to obey the law. If a person wants an education and a chance, this is the place. There are chances all over the place. All that has to be done is to apply yourself and you can be a star.

Mike, what do you think about those innocents on death row, such as Juan Melendez, who was released after serving 17 years on the row? Also, the DP is not equally applied. For these reasons i'm anti-dp. My best friend was almost executed 2 years ago, he recieved a stay one day before his date. His co-defendant confessed to the crime!! There are way too many flaws in the "system" as is. I am not being antagonistic, I simply would like your views on these issues. You seem to be a nice, reasonable guy. Let's exchange views/opinions on this. Okay?

No problem... I think that the person being tried for a capitol crime should have a good lawyer(Experienced in that level of cases) a fair jury, and a fair judge. The evidence should be gathered and stored carefully, and that the accused gets their day in court. If a person has the chance for a deal, and you can get it, take it. You can always fight convictions on appeal. You can always be living to fight later. As I said, every chance.

the only problem i see with you mike and beef is that you seem to think its ok to get put away without hardcore evidence. Its good to know we got people like you out there in the World that are willing to sacrafice people on other poeples words. For instance, i say you never graduated high school. My proof is your ignorance on the death penalty subject. Now, being i refuse to admitt your so-called proof that you did into evidence, the record stands you wuz a drop out! So, heres info on a GED? www.gedonline.org/

It has a lot to do with it...Most inmates are badly educated, with a 6.8 to 7.8 test score in reading and math as far as grade level. They have families, and they need to support them. Crime is often an alternative. However, an education can hopefully stop that.

Oh really Mike..Are you sure you are talking about Texas, not about Utopia or Neverland? I've never been to Texas, but from your post I see that it is enough to be born there and have a terrific life! Only there are some strange or masochistic people that choose not to grab that excellent opportunity life has given them!
And DP? Oh, it is just a small trinket compared to nice movie with balcony..

It is a land of opprotunity. All you have to do is apply yourself. I work at a community college. I get lots of students in every year that think sport will pay the bills. Chances are very slim of that. Get an education. That is what I tell them. Most fail out.
