I've just received a letter from Carolyn King in Muncy. She expresses concern that several friends from the CCADP have ceased writing her. She's terribly lonely and in genuine need of emotional support.
There has been some difficulty in the past with mail to Muncy. I personally haven't experienced it. Yet, since there have been changes in treatment of female prisoners after great pressure being put on the administration there, it's difficult to say just what is being done in retaliation against these women.
Her address is:
Carolyn King, # OC7210, P. O. Box 180, Muncy, Pennsylvania 17756
She would so appreciate a line or card sent her way.
Thank you so much.

Hi Janet I think I may be one of those friends I just got a letter from Carol today and it seems that she hasnt got the last 2 letters I've sent her. Hopefully they are not playing silly games with the girls because they were victorious in their fight. Its bad timing to be withholding mail Have written to Carol again today, lets keep our fingers crossed she gets this letter. Cheers Jo

Hi Jo,
Have you ever had a problem sending books to Carol? I've tried twice through amazon and neither have arrived or been returned.
After checking with the mailroom, I was told there should be no problem if the envelope wasn't padded.
Thanks.
Jan

Janet, I wrote to Carolyn King and she wrote back. But now I think I'm having a problem with the mail. This is a shame. Are you having any problems with this? What can be done about it? This isn't right. If she's not receiving her mail and something is being done with it, that's a federal offense, right? This should be reported. Who can we report this to?

Sorry that I missed this post yesterday. The last letter I received from Carolyn was mailed on June 25th. There have been many problems with the mailroom in the past. I've had excellent results with the Pennsylvania Prison Society. 2000 Spring Garden, Philadelphia, PA, 19130
If you'd like to pm me, I'll give you the e-mail address of an excellent resource there.

Hi......the latest word I heard from a source Im not totally sure about ....is that the womens death row unit for PA is being moved out of Muncy within days.
Does anyone have any information that may confirm or deny that possibility?
Im seeking confirmation when offices are open again after the weekend and will post again ASAP.

Wow, CCADP is just filled with good news tonight! Because if this is true, it has to be good news! These women weren't even getting there letters half the time at Muncy. I never got to know Carolyn that well, and pretty much just gave up on writing her. The problem was with the mail, and I got no where when I made an email attempt to complain about the issue. And stamps cost too much these days to be sending out letters that aren't even going to the source. I hope all those that have been regular writers to Carolyn will still continue to write and support her.... Maybe I'll write her again after she's moved to her new location! Cool! This place has to be a change for the better, by the sounds of things at Muncy. Carolyn thought that people from here had ceased writing her, but the truth is- the problem was with the mail. I hope she understands that now.

I understand via friend of a friend that the girls on death row at Muncy have been taken from the death row pod and are currently in with the general population at Muncy.
An item that appeared on DRIVE tended to suggest they had been moved away from Muncy altogether, but I now understand that to be incorrect. However, for girls that have been used to single cell accomodation this is an abrupt culture change and I also believe Carolyn, Beth and Michelle have all had difficulty in adapting.
All would be grateful for support and encouragement from friends at a most trying time.

Yes, the ladies are desperately in need of support. The move to general population has caused tremedous stress, with the noise level and usage of profanity increased. A description of the situation was provided me by Carolyn in a letter received just a few days ago.
They sincerely do need all the encouragement they can receive.

Jan FWIW, in California, shipments of paperback books or CDs must be sent through BarnesandNoble.com. San Quentin is no longer accepting shipments from Amazon.com
