Hi there,
I currently write to 3 DR inmates and have been doing so for quite some time. You'll find that if your husband just wants to bombard them with questions, and is merely curious as to how life is on death row, rather than wanting to create a meaningful friendship with the inmate, the inmate might find it offensive . . . I certainly would. It normally takes a strong bond and a level of trust to get into an inmates mind, if that is what you husband intends to do. I've been writing to two of my penpals for over a year now, and we haven't even skimmed over their cases, or even any in depth discussion to how awful DR makes them feel. I find they're mostly concerned with me cheering them up, making them feel positive and hopeful. I'm more concerned with offering friendship and support than curious about death row. Many inmates will be able to answer many questions your husband has, and hopefully it may develop into an honest friendship. But if getting into an inmates mind about how he/she feels to be on death row is all your husband wants to do then I certainly wouldn't help him find someone. CCADP has a long list of inmates looking for penpals. But remember it goes both ways. Never write to an inmate unless you intend to be fully committed to that person whatever their end, not just until the novelty wears off.
Good luck.
