I wrote to Steven Alvarado, who is currently on Death Row on Polunsky Unit (per his ad on your site). For about 2wks, I didn't hear anything, then today, when I checked my PO BOX, his letter came back. On the front of the envelope, it looks like someone had put a white sticky over his address and then wrote the correct address on it. Then over THAT, someone took some black marker and scratched it out. At the top of the letter, written in pen it says: "RTS AUK". Then to the left hand side of my envelope, written in pen it says: "AH" then below the "ah" it says: "DC" Written below the "RTS AUK" it says in pencil: "Perm inactive". They also changed his inmate to to something ELSE on the front of my envelope from what I originally had, to something else. What IS all this mess?

Can you call the prison mailroom and ask? I wonder if the letters are some kind of code for the mailroom. Is it possible he was moved to a different place? I hope you find out....... I agree it's strange.

Abi, Did you know he is no longer on DR? This would give him a new address I'm sure. He shouldn't even be on a DR pen pal list anymore! Death sentence commuted to life after the US Supreme Court ruled on March 1st, 2005 that the execution of juvenile offenders is against the constitution.

On the new address on the front of my envelope, before the black marker scratched it out was something like: "Rt1 Box {dont remember the box#}.....Gatesville, TX......You think maybe I should try writing to that address just to see if he gets it? It was marked out with black marker so maybe that addy is in-correct.....but wouldn't they forward the letter to him instead of sending it back?

Abi,
I can't find a new address anywhere. About all I can tell you to do is call Polunsky and see if they can give you a new address for him. If that doesn't work try the one that is on the envelope. I shall keep looking.
I get letters that are cut into strips. They are looking for stuff in them I guess. So no I doubt that they would forward anything to him.

Do you get letters where it looks like the letter is taped together in places where you think someone has snipped off some parts? That just smells rotten!!!!!!!!!!!

I had one letter that was sliced all the way open on the end. They didn't even tape it back up. Luckily the letter didn't fall out. They cut the envelopes so they can shake them to make sure we haven't sent a bomb. LOL They check the in coming and out going at Mansfield. My pen pal says that sometimes they cut my letters in half so he recieves the letter in two pieces. Pretty sad isn't it?

Since Steven Alvarado is no longer a DR person, do you think the mailroom or anything else for that matter is "less strict" Or does it not matter?? Do they still check the mail at prisons regardless if you are on DR or just in regular prison?
