I personally feel the most believable conspiracy theory in a US DP case was in the trial and execution of the alledged Lindbergh child kidnapper and murderer!
The conspiracy theory here is very simple! Charles Lindbergh was entering politics and had chances of becoming president! He was however politically an isolationist and hoped that the US could become a gigantic American version of Switzerland! No military alliances with foreign nations, enforcement of the Monroe Doctrine, etc..
Certain "interests" felt Lindbergh must be stopped! The plan was to kidnap and murder his child and make it look like an ordinary criminal act! The intent was to break Lindbergh emotionally and torpedo his political ambitions! The kidnapping was carried out and a ransom in marked US dollars given to a kidnapper! Young Charles Lindbergh Jr. was found murdered and then time went by! The certain "interests" had a man by the name of Fish, who was dying of cancer, run up debts in a boarding house run by the later defendant in the Lindbergh murder trial! Mr. Fish then returned to Europe, where he died of cancer, but he or someone left the entire sum of ransom money untouched on the property where Fish lived..The certain "interests" rightfully suspected that the "fall guy", would find the money and then foolishly keep it and start spending it, get arrested and convicted! The American people would view this murder then as not having a political motive! The rest is history!
I find this "conspiracy theory" more believable than any other "DP conspiracy theories" in US DP cases! An entire political movement was virtually reduced to insignificance with Charles Lindbergh's withdrawal from politics, after his son's murder!
