I know what they are going thru. My heart and prayers go out to his daughter and family. I wish the governer would have a sudden change of heart. How can anyone look into that beautiful Lil Rikki's eyes and take her Daddy away from her? Hoping and praying for a miracle.........

anyone who could look into her eyes then rip her father from her; is obviously a sociopath in the true sense of the word; and JUST as heartless as these 'good' people claim D.R killers are.

thanks Mike since I can't vote there.... in practice tho; since it seems to be political suicide to take a stance on this issue that isn't popular; the parties aren't that different from each other when it comes to giving stays. The governor that does finds his opponent saying he is 'soft on crime' at the next election; so no one wants to take a principled stand.... the current governor is same ol' same ol....

Not so sure about that...Texas has a wide latitude for crimes that are Death Penalty eligble. Murder of a police officer or fireman, murder of a child under a certain age, murder of a person while in commiting a felony, murder by an escaped inmate, murder for hire. I think that is most of the list. People that do those crimes, especially in commiting a crime or murder of a police officer deserve what they get. As you pointed out, just because a person is in prison for life can still commit crimes. The governor is there to be the chief executive of the state. He cannot pardon anyone, buthe can grant a stay for 30 days. Jeb Bush could give a pardon, but that is Florida. I will say that execution is not always the answer. However, for some people, it is the only thing to do. It is sad, but we have to have laws to protect society.

Mike; emotions are a little high around here today to argue - but I am OFFENDED if you think Texas is a little safer tomorrow because they killed Cartwright.
I guess it would have been a MUCH more dangerous place if he'd taken the 40 years? The fact that the state offers 40 years show they knew there was no need for death in this case; even if their descriptions of the crime are the truth.

2 mike
I agree that there must be low to protect all of us, otherwise we would live in anarchy…but why killing people? That is murder too! Will you feel more protected if Richard is killed? Would you feel more secure walking the streets after this man is dead? What about innocent that will suffer? And do you think that in our countries where there is no DP people are walking around killing each other as they please?

I would feel safer...Sorry, but it is true. two students at the other college in the county I live in used an AK-47 in a drug deal gone wrong on that campus. It was a FULL AUTOMATIC weapon, just like terorists use. And this was on a Junior College campus. Look at the Texas 7...Killed a police office while on the run. All of them are now on death row. They all had either long prison sentences or were doing life without parole. I am not trying to provoke any bad feelings or get people angry. However, crime is scary and something needs to be done. I would prefer giving people better chances, better education, or more oprotunity. But there has to be a place where society says "Enough!!!!" I hope I am not being inciteful, but we all have views and differences...and this is a very good thing that we all do. Bumper sticker-- We are Microsoft. Prepare to be assimilated...

Well; I'm glad that you'll feel better and more secure in your personal life when you see that Richard Cartwright is dead.
The reality is it WON'T MAKE A BIT OF DIFFERENCE.
And you and family are NO safer - cause the people that might be a problem to you are WALKING free; not sitting in a jail cell for the last 9 years.
It would be nice if you could attack some issues that would actually make the people and the children of the state safer; instead of having some kind of false comfort in the death of some guy thats been locked in a cage for nearly a decade.
