I was reading a letter from a DR inmate and it mentioned what seemed to be an inmate smoking pot i assume, mentioning "the officer smelled something etc" and they locked them all down etc. I assume it was pot. But how is that possible, I also read something to the effect of acohol as well? Please explain?
I've been reading alot about DR over the last few weeks and seem to find myself reading and seaching for more insight into the lives & conditions of DR inmates. I believe that it is in serious need of change!
The above question came to me as i was considering visiting a DR inmate in the future and thought well if there is drugs etc on DR that the visitors must of brought them in? Making me think, well sh*t...If I go to lets say Texas to visit I may not make it back home. I don't say this as a joke, it was a real thought!
Lastly, this being my very first post, i just wanted to get a feel of posting and see where everyone is as far as insight and different questions are concerned.
I believe we have a short way to go to end these bad conditions on the Row. The reason i say this is that the conditions are soooo harsh that its a dead give-away this is not humane. I aslo realize that Pope John Paul has voiced his opinion as well and DR still exists so i know this task is not to be taken lightly. Thanks - Joe
P.S I plan to post my thouhts as to help end this insanity taking place on DR in future posts. I don't have a thought of where to start yet, but i'll say this...It won't be long before I come up w/ an intellectual solution that helps breed a change.

On most death rows there are no contact visits at all; so the only way that anything can really get in is through guards; they've been caught with contraband in lots of places; even a single tobacco cigarette can be worth a few dollars on death row in some states - imagine what a temptation a profit like that might be for a guard making minimum wage!!! Alcohol; people seem to be geniuses at making alcohol even in the most restrictive situations ! For an example I just did a google search on prison alcohol and found this...just need fruit; sugar; ketchup!!! www.blacktable.com/gillin030901.htm

I don't have any first hand information on this. I simply read it on some website.
It is perhaps a good idea to mention it anyway.
I know of one example where an inmate asked a friend to send money to a specific address, (not to the trust fund). The story was that the person who received the money would be responsible for posting them to the inmate's trust fund account.
The real story was that the address was to a prison guard, who would buy some sort of drug for the inmate, bring in into the prison and to the inmate.
The reason I mention it, is that if you're asked to send money to an address you don't know, it could be something "fishy". You may try to do be kind and do what the prisoner tells you, but unless you're asked to post money to the trust fund account, be careful and make sure you know what you're doing.
Remember that using drugs in such a situation is a lot more dangerous than in a normal situation. These guys need to be alert at all times and some drugs will result in less care for himself, less care to work on his case and it gets easier to have them killed.
I know some may have been angry because I posted this. Just wanted people to be aware.
Love, Turid
