I am informed by my penpal that San Quentin are now allowing international calls via pre payments to Western Union. Does anyone have any idea firstly, how much this would cost and secondly, whether it is any good in operation? MCI were pants years ago when I tried to persuade them to set a collect call up for him to ring me over here in London. Alas, it didn't help that I couldn't understand what the operator at MCI was saying and she couldn't understand what I was saying!! Accents and all that....

I use Vonage, it goes through your Broadband. They can set you up with a virtual telephone number overseas. The person overseas calls that number, and it routes it through at their local costs. The whole service costs me £7.99 per month for all calls here and overseas for unlimited time, and £2.99 for the virtual number overseas. The only calls you get charged extra for are premium and cellphones. Excellent company, really helpful and know what they're doing.
