An Horry County grand jury Monday indicted a man suspected in a Conway killing and one other.
Stephen Stanko is accused of killing Henry Lee Turner on April 8 at Turner's home in Conway, police said. He was indicted Monday on charges of murder and armed robbery.
Stanko also is suspected of killing his former girlfriend Laura Ling, 43, and raping a teenaged girl in Ling's Murrells Inlet home. A Georgetown County grand jury indicted him last week in those crimes.
Prosecutors said they plan to seek the death penalty for Stanko in both counties.
The murder indictment against Stanko says he shot Turner in the chest and back with a handgun. The armed robbery indictment says Stanko, while armed with a .357 Magnum revolver or a Derringer handgun - both owned by Turner - also took Turner's Mazda truck and cell phone.
Stanko is expected to go to trial on the Georgetown County charges next year. A separate trial will be held in Horry County on the charges related to Turner's death.
Prosecutor said Stanko fled Ling's home in her Ford Mustang and stole about $700 from her bank account.
Police said Stanko later killed Turner, whom he met through Ling, then used Turner's truck to go to Columbia and then to Augusta, Ga., where he was arrested April 12 by U.S. Marshals.
Stanko had spent about 10 years in prison for kidnapping and was released from prison about a year before the slayings.
While in prison, he co-wrote a book, titled "Living in Prison: A History of the Correctional System With an Insider's View," with help from a pair of criminology professors.
He has been in and out of S.C. prisons since the early 1990s on charges that included kidnapping, assault and battery with intent to kill, and grand larceny, according to police records.
