State ends testimony Tuesday, August 30, 2005 By MATT DUNN Staff Writer NJ.com BRIDGETON -- Lisa Scrugg of Chincateague, Va., didn't know William Severs Jr. -- or at least that's what she thought prior to Monday.
Severs, 42, of Pittsgrove Township, is standing trial in connection with the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, Tina Labriola of Vineland.
Charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses, he faces the death penalty if convicted.

In January 2002, when Severs was wanted as a suspect in Labriola's death, Scrugg testified Monday that she met a tall blond man at the Island Family Restaurant in Chincateague who introduced himself as Edward Northam.
Scrugg said the man remarked he'd like to be called Tony.
Asked if she could identify that man in the courtroom Monday, Scrugg paused.
She looked at Severs, dressed in a black suit and tie, with medium-length dark hair and a thick mustache.
"I don't see him," she responded.
It wasn't until on her way out of the courtroom when Scrugg saw Severs' profile that she said she realized the man she had thought was Northam was Severs.
First Assistant Prosecutor Ken Pagliughi, after court, reassured Scrugg it was all right.
