Mayor won't be drawn into death penalty debate
Houston Mayor Bill White said Wednesday that he will not get into the debate over whether there should be a moratorium on the death penalty.
His statement comes just one day after police chief Harold Hurtt, revealed hundreds of pieces of evidence had been located and catalogued in the department's property room.
The evidence was from cases that dated back years and had never been introduced at trial. It included evidence for three capital murder cases.
"There are a lot of voices in this community on this issue," says White, "reacting or over reacting."
Mayor White went on to say he applauds Chief Harold Hurtt's initiative to look into these capital murder cases.
