JACKSON COUNTY - Korey House sat quietly in the Jackson County Jail courtroom Wednesday morning, at one point shaking his head and another time closing his eyes, as first-degree murder charges were read against him.
The 18-year-old Murphysboro man was making his first court appearance on charges in the shooting death of Gilbert Feliciano, also 18, of Carbondale.
Judge Kimberly Dahlen set House's bond at $1 million, meaning House must pay $100,000 to be released from jail before his trial. Dahlen also reminded House that the death penalty could be sought against him.
House waved to his girlfriend as he left the room and smiled, his only significant change in facial expression during the proceedings.
Feliciano was fatally shot in the head on Aug. 10 in the parking lot of the Phillips Village Apartments complex on East Walnut in Carbondale. Carbondale police were on the scene at 4:13 p.m., just minutes after the shooting occurred.

Police said Feliciano was standing the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lived when a car pulled up near the BP Station on Main Street, which is near the apartments. Two men exited the car and approached Feliciano. One of the two men shot Feliciano in the head with a small caliber handgun, police said, and then the two men left the scene.
Police said three women were also in the car that was on the scene at the shooting. The women are not wanted on any charges relating to the shooting, said Deputy Chief Calvin Stearns on Wednesday.
Police recovered the car in a parking lot on the northwest side of Carbondale later that day. Further investigation, assisted by the Murphysboro Police Department, led to the identification of Van-Neal and House as suspects.
House turned himself in to Murphysboro police late Monday night, and was booked in the jail very early Tuesday morning.
Police continue to look for the second suspect, 22-year-old Kenny Van-Neal, also known as Kenny Vann. Police said Van-Neal wears gold front teeth, which are removable.
Anyone with information about his location is asked to call the Carbondale Police Department at (618) 457-3200 or the anonymous tip line at Carbondale Crime Stoppers at (618) 549-COPS.
