Peterson Family Establishes $250,000 Reward in Appeal to Public for Information
LOS ANGELES, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The family and friends of Scott
Peterson announced today that they are establishing a $250,000 reward for
specific information leading to an arrest and conviction for the abduction and
murder of Laci and Conner Peterson, or for specific information leading to the
exoneration and release of Scott Peterson.
"We cannot correct the most tragic wrong -- that Laci and Conner were
taken from us. But we can use our ongoing investigation and new rewards to
pursue the prosecution of those involved and work to correct Scott's wrongful
conviction," said Scott's father Lee Peterson. "All of us remain deeply
committed to Scott's innocence and to finding Laci's real killer." There has
never been a reward offered in this case for information leading to an arrest
and conviction. The first reward for $500,000 in December of 2002 was
specifically for Laci's safe return and the second reward issued in early 2003
for $50,000 was specifically for the recovery of her body.
According to Peterson, the family "felt this new reward would encourage
people to come forward who have specific knowledge that would lead to a just
conviction of the true criminals."
A second $5,000 reward is being offered for specific information leading
to the recovery of Laci Peterson's missing Croton watch.
"We believe Laci was wearing this watch the day she disappeared and that
locating the watch may provide valuable information," said Peterson.
The two new rewards are being posted by the family on an Internet site
they created called ScottPetersonAppeal.org. The site publishes updates on
the Scott Peterson case and his legal appeal as well as detailed information
on the facts of the case. The website features a photo of the Croton watch
and a flyer announcing the new reward which can be downloaded for printing.
In a statement on the website, the family says, "For the first time since
Laci and Conner were taken from us, we feel we can pour everything we have
into seeking justice for them. When Laci first went missing, although we had
investigators, we did not have access to the tips being called in to the
police. Once Scott was arrested, all those tips had to be handed over to the
defense. While many of them were pursued, the primary focus at that time was
Scott's defense. Now that we have our appellate attorneys in place, our
family truly feels we can focus on the investigation."
Persons with any information are urged to call the tip line at
877-LACI TIP (877-522-4847). For more information or to contact the Peterson
family, log onto ScottPetersonAppeal.org.
