It's common sense to assume that if the price to see a movie at a theatre is doubled, less people will be willing to pay to see the film! Thus the high price to see a film acts as a deterrent! Some of the most expensive cosmetics are less effective than drug store brands. It doesn't stop the expensive ones from selling. Your hypothesis is defective.

Good post, well presented....
Since we execute so few murderers...it cannot have much effect on the overall murder rate.
There is no way on earth, I would believe that executions have the opposite effect desired.
My reason for wanting to execute would not show up in graphs like these here.
Some...just a few...murderers are so unbelievably dangerous, and obviously guilty, usually more than once... That we simply cannot afford to allow them to exist...any more than we would put a 500 lb bomb in prison.....it needs to be made totallly safe... Personally, I see no other way right now.
