TEXTZOE ANGELES AND JOHN DENOVA MISSING, RICHMOND, CA Foster Children Reported Missing Posted: May 26, 2005 (KRON) -- Two children placed in separate foster homes in the East Bay were reported missing late Thursday. Zoe Angeles John Denova Richmond police spent the night Thursday papering the city with fliers and calling in extra patrols to find the two missing foster kids. Zoe Angeles, 8, disappeared sometime after noon on Thursday. She is described as a Latina, 4 feet tall, 70 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Just a block from the police station Thursday afternoon, she left her school, Saint Cornelius, and boarded an AC Transit bus. She had not been seen since. "We don't know where she went after she got off the bus," said Richmond Police Detective Sgt. Mark Gagan. Her brother, 12-year old John Denova, was also reported missing from his Oakland home. Police describe him as a light complected Latino, 5 foot 2 inches tall, about 120 pounds with a shaven head and blue eyes. Both children have been in separate foster care homes for about two weeks, after their mother was arrested and charged with carjacking, police say. Investigators have already questioned the mother in her children's disappearance but she has no information, police say. Police believe that 38-year old Gerardo Duron, the mother's ex-boyfriend, may have information in the case and are searching for him as a person of interest. "We are trying to locate the boyfriend and interview him to see what knowledge he has, or if he facilitated them leaving to be with him," Gagan said. Police add that Duron has an extensive criminal history. "We really want help," Gagan said. "We want Zoe's face out there. I try not to be an alarmist, but her age puts her at risk." www.kron4.com/Global/story.asp?S=3399744&nav=5D7laMphMISSING RICHMOND GIRL FOUND, BROTHER STILL MISSING 05/27/05 The Richmond Police Department reports that an 8-year-old girl who was reported missing Thursday afternoon was located in San Francisco early this morning, but her 12-year-old brother is still missing. According to Sgt. Mark Gagan, the girl, Zoe Angeles, was turned in to a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent at the Tenderloin police station at approximately 12:40 a.m. Angeles has been in foster care for the last two weeks because her mother is in jail, police report. Authorities believe that Angeles' brother John Denova convinced her to runaway, Gagan said. Denova, who is still missing, is described as standing 5 feet 2 inches, weighing 140 pounds, with a shaved head, and blue eyes. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Richmond Police Department at (510) 233-1214. cbs5.com/localwire/localfsnews/bcn/...ources_bcn_html

GIAO THUY LAI MISSING, LOUDOUN, VAFor Immediate Release 05/18/05 Sheriff’s Office Seeks Information on Whereabouts of Missing Teenager & Her Boyfriend Edson Mejia Giao Thuy Lai Loudoun County, Virginia- The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing female teenager who is believed to be with her 19-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend, Edson Mejia, of Sterling is wanted on assault charges after an incident Sunday evening in which he dragged the missing juveniles 45-year-old mother a short distance with his car after an altercation. The incident began around 9:15 PM when the daughter, Giao Thuy Lai, 17, of Ashburn had returned to her parent’s residence in the 20200 block of Brookview Square. The teenager had been reported missing by her parents three weeks ago and was said to have left at that time on her own accord. The mother, concerned her daughter was going to try to leave again, attempted to hold Giao in the house. The boyfriend then pushed the mother out of the way. Eventually the two teens would get into a black or dark colored Toyota, possibly a model year 2001 Celica, with Virginia license plate JHR 5242. The mother attempted to keep them from leaving by grabbing onto the car and at that time Mejia was said to have driven away very fast dragging the woman a short distance. The Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants Tuesday afternoon for Mejia’s arrest on charges of Felony Hit and Run, Assault and Battery, Malicious Wounding and Driving while Revoked. JEREMY GRICE Description: DOB: May 12, 1981 Missing: Nov 22, 1985 Age Now: 24 Sex: Male Race: White Hair: Blonde Eyes: Hazel Height: 3'8" (112 cm) Weight: 40 lbs (18 kg) Missing From: NORTH AUGUSTA, SC United States Circumstances: He was last seen by a neighbor at about 8:45 a.m. He was standing near a mailbox, wearing no shoes. Contact Information: Aiken County Sheriff's Office (South Carolina) - Missing Persons Unit - 1-803-642-1761 National Center for Missing & Exploited Children 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST) NCMEC Missing Kids Mysteries: Jeremy Grice By Angie Goff Posted 6:44pm by BrettWitt Aiken- May 17, 2005 They say time heals, but as the days go by, the pain doesn't get any better for two Aiken parents. Donna Smith and Ray Grice have spent the last twenty years searching for their son. Donna still can't believe her son has been gone so long, "I would have never believed that it would have lasted this long. I'm waiting for him to come home." One morning in 1985, Smith awoke to find her son Jeremy missing from their Aiken County home, "It drives you crazy and you think about it everyday and you wonder, who or why or who took him, why they had taken him. I just don't know." The morning Jeremy was discovered missing, it was cold and raining. A neighbor reported seeing the boy standing where a mailbox once stood next to Jeremy's house. The neighbor said the boy appeared to be barefoot and waiting for a bus. The odd thing is, Jeremy didn't have school that day. Ray believes the answers are in that neighborhood, "I feel somebody deliberately took him, whether it was that morning, the evening before, whatever, I don't feel that he wandered off." Captain Wallace Owens of the Aiken County Sheriff's Department says hundreds of volunteers searched the woods and lakes around the area, but found no sign of the little boy, "We know he did not just vanish into thin air." Owens is the lead investigator in the case. He says they're short on clues and there's never been a crime scene or a suspect, "I think you'd be naïve if you didn't think some type of foul play wasn't involved in it, because he would be old enough now to move around on his own." Jeremy would have turned 24 this month. His mother still pictures him as a four-year-old, "He loved to ride his four wheeler and he'd put on his football helmet and ride it. That was one of my fondest memories of him." Now she can see her son as a young man in an age-progressed photo, "I hope through this and by his picture, maybe he'll remember himself and remember us, remember his family and we still love him and we're looking for him and we always will, till we find him." It's already been a long and fruitless search. Over the years, hundreds of leads on the case have come in, but none have panned out. A psychic said in 1995 that dive teams would find the boy's remains in a pond. The search turned up nothing. Owens says a decade later, investigators aren't any closer to solving the case, "I think it's gonna be real hard and the reason I say that, just being realistic, is that so much time has went by in this case." Ray says through all the discouraging days, months and years, the grieving family continues to look to the future, "I believe he's alive somewhere. He may not even be in the country, but I believe he's alive somewhere." Donna remains convinced her son will come home one day, "It's gonna be a glorious day. It's gonna be really wonderful. It's gonna be a miracle. God is gonna show us a miracle when he comes home." The whole family came together when News 10 met for the interview in Aiken. Jeremy's sister, his Nana, his aunts and uncles were all there. The parents are just hoping that maybe by telling their story, even 20 years later, someone will remember something and come forward to help find their son. www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3358325&nav=0RaPZyqSAdvances in response time, technology help recover missing kids Aiken May 25, 2005 - Four-year-old Jeremy Grice disappeared from his Aiken County home twenty-years-ago. His father, Ray Grice, recalls the search for his son was full of frustration, "Several days after he was missing there was some of the neighboring counties that claimed they had heard nothing about it, the word hadn't got out." He thinks about how things could have been if a program like Amber Alert existed then, "If there had been more done quick enough then, then we might not be sitting here." Statistics support that assessment. In 1984, the recovery rate of missing children was 60%. In recent years, advanced technology and programs like the Amber Alert have drastically increased that number. South Carolina launched the Amber Alert program two-years-ago. Margaret Frierson with the Center for Missing Children says since then the eight alerts issued have turned up all children involved, "What Amber does is that it puts that child's image and that info before the public and the public becomes our eyes and ears." It's now faster than before. The Department of Transportation announced Wednesday it can broadcast highway alerts within thirty minutes, which is half the time it used to take. Also, starting this year SLED will appoint a full time coordinator dedicated to expanding the Amber Alert program. All the advances are great for the future, but arrived too late for Ray Grice, "There's not a whole lot that we can do right now, except pray that he sees something or remembers some things." www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3393743&nav=0RaPaJIF

Lancaster teen missing for days Father: Girl may be with older boy By Greg Botonis, Staff Writer Saturday, June 11, 2005 LANCASTER -- A 14-year-old Lancaster girl went missing from her high school Wednesday and her family is asking for the public's help in finding her. Elisa Rocha's father believes she may be with a 17-year-old boy her family knows only as Richard. "His mother talked to his friends who said that he was going away for a few days and he hasn't been seen since Wednesday either," Viviano Rocha said. Elisa was dropped off at Lancaster High School at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday but never made it to her classes, her father said. Her friends told her family they didn't see her that day but knew that she was going to meet Richard before school. Rocha has printed up fliers with his daughter's photos and distributed them at stores, parks and other areas he believes his daughter or Richard may frequent. Elisa's mother, who lives in the San Fernando Valley, has drawn up her own fliers and is posting them around Lancaster as well. Sheriff's missing persons investigators were unavailable for comment Saturday afternoon. Elisa is 5 feet tall and weighs about 110 pounds. She has straight, shoulder-length reddish-brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing jeans, a beige blouse under a red, gray and black flannel shirt and black Vans shoes. A Project Jason Press Release 18 Wheels Turn for Missing Teen A mother’s love for her daughter knows no bounds, and when that daughter has been ripped from her arms, she will move Heaven and Earth to find her. The caption above her daughter’s photo simply states: MISSING. The young woman in the photo is Ashley Martinez, 16, of St. Joseph, MO, missing since July 6th, 2004. This is not such a simple matter for her mother, Tammy, who is doing everything she can to find her, as her heart is breaking as she fears for the well-being and safety of her daughter. Strangers across the country are also helping Ashley’s family in many ways, and now some of the country’s best natural networkers, truck drivers, are going to help find the young woman by their participation in the 18 Wheel Angels program. 18 Wheel Angels is a national missing person’s locator program spearheaded by nonprofit organization Project Jason. The program enlists the aid of truck drivers and business travelers to place posters of missing persons along their routes as they travel across the country. Participants are asked to go to the 18 Wheel Angels link on the Project Jason website at www.projectjason.org, and to then download and print as many posters as they can place. Anyone can participate. Ashley Martinez’ 18 Wheel Angel campaign began on June 1st.and will run through the 15th. In addition to the 18 Wheel Angels campaign, Project Jason, working together with JB Scott Publishing of Anniston, AL, has featured Ashley in the monthly publication, Through the Gears, which has a circulation nationwide of approximately 150,000. She is also on their website at www.truckjobseekers.com. Project Jason has also added Ashley to their Adopt a Missing Person program. Ashley’s family sent buttons to the organization to have available for people across the country to mail in and request. The compassionate person who adopts Ashley will also be mailed an info card, which contains a bio and personal information about her. Whoever adopts Ashley will wear her button and share her story with others. As awareness is key in missing person’s cases, it is important for Ashley’s face to be seen so that she can be found and reunited with her family. Additional information about how to adopt Ashley can be found at www.projectjason.org. Project Jason was founded by Kelly Jolkowski, mother of missing Omaha, NE youth Jason Jolkowski. The all volunteer group’s mission is to create and increase public awareness of missing people through a variety of outreach and educational activities. Project Jason seeks to bring hope and assistance to families of the missing by providing resources and support. Ashley is a white female, 5’ 3” tall and 110 lbs with long sandy hair and blue eyes. Ashley suffers from bi-polar disorder, and does not have her medication with her. There is now a $5000 reward for information leading to the location and safe return of Ashley. Fears rise for missing girl A 17-year-old Stanwood student disappeared between classes a month ago. By Diana Hefley Herald Writer Published: Saturday, June 11, 2005 STANWOOD - It's been a month since Gabriella "Gabby" Mercedes disappeared from Stanwood High School. Detectives say they aren't any closer to finding her since she went missing May 11. Gabriella Mercedes Gabriella's mother says she needs a miracle to find her daughter. "I don't know where to turn anymore," Mary Mercedes said. "I just need to find her." Gabriella, 17, is developmentally delayed, her mother said. She has the mental capacity of a 10- to 12-year-old, takes medication for attention deficit disorder and sometimes has panic attacks, Mercedes said. Detectives say they've spoken with the girl's family and friends but have come up empty-handed. "None of the leads panned out. Each day that passes makes it more difficult to find her," Snohomish County sheriff's deputy Rich Niebusch said. Mercedes worries that her daughter may haven fallen in with the wrong people. "She's very gullible and extremely naive," she said. "She may not realize she's in a bad situation." Mercedes last saw Gabriella before she left for school. The girl attends special education classes at Stanwood High School and usually has someone walk her to class. That day she didn't, her mother said. Gabriella went to her third-period class but never showed up for her fourth-period class, Mercedes said. "It's like she fell off the face of the earth," she said. Mercedes first thought her daughter might be with a friend, but Gabriella never called home. "She always calls. She always checks in," Mercedes said. "If she could come home, she would." Gabriella didn't show up for her birthday on May 19. Her gifts sit wrapped on her bed. She also missed an auction at which she planned to sell a pig she had been raising. Mercedes and her family have posted fliers around the area. They've spoken to bus drivers, hoping someone has seen Gabriella. They've gone to homeless shelters, passing out the girl's picture. All to no avail. "I'm afraid for the worst. People just don't vanish," Mercedes said. Family, police search for Fairfield girl By Candice Brooks JournalNews June 7 2005 FAIRFIELD — A local family is in a desperate search to find Deanna Hubbard, a 15-year-old Fairfield girl who hasn’t been seen Friday. Susan Deems, Hubbard’s grandmother and legal guardian, saw her granddaughter get on the school bus in front of their apartment complex on Southgate Boulevard about 6:30 a.m. Friday. It was the Fairfield freshman’s last day of school. “I watch her out the window every morning,” said Deems, who noticed nothing out of the ordinary. However, Deems later received a call from Fairfield Freshman School that Hubbard never went to class. Deems filed a police report that afternoon at the Fairfield Police Department and Hubbard was classified as a runaway. “I cannot see Deanna doing something like this,” Deems said about her granddaughter, who often calls to check in, hangs out at the library, and attends Wednesday night church services with a friend. “I feel like something is wrong that she can’t get back home.” Police have questioned Hubbard’s friends and continue to investigate. “If a very young child gets lost in a park, that would be classified as missing,” said Fairfield Police Officer Eddie Bausch. “Typically with older kids, they are classified as runaway unless there is reason to believe otherwise.” Uncertainty and frustration are beginning to overwhelm Hubbard’s family now that she has been gone five days. They have driven through the neighborhood and posted fliers. “We’ve contacted everybody. We’ve given the police all their names,” said Hubbard’s aunt, Benita Taylor. “It just seems that nobody knows anything.” Hubbard is 5-foot-2, weighs 125 pounds, has long brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a green shirt with a dog on the front, a navy blue jacket and black tennis shoes. Anyone with information can call the Fairfield Police Department at (513) 829-8201. Although Hubbard was last seen by her family Friday morning, police told the family a friend dropped Hubbard off at the Fairfield Lane Library after 1 p.m. Friday. Hubbard likely met up with her boyfriend first at Fairfield High School where they both transfer buses, family said. “She was on the bus, but she told me she was going to the high school,” Hubbard’s friend, Ashlyn Vandiver, said. Hubbard skipped the last day of school, but she never said anything about running away, Vandiver said. Ashley Long, 15, often hangs out with friends at the library and said she saw Hubbard walking near the library looking for her boyfriend about 3 p.m. Friday. “He’s pretty broken up about it because he has no idea where she is,” the boyfriend’s brother said. Hubbard had been dating her boyfriend for about two to three weeks since moving from Fairfield Township to the city of Fairfield almost three months ago, Taylor said. “She just started switching friends and these (new friends) were Gothic,” Taylor said. The influence of Hubbard’s new friends showed up in a notebook her grandmother found in the teen’s bedroom Saturday. Hubbard titled it “The Broken Heart Book.” Inside she drew pictures of death, Armageddon, a slit wrist, and a dagger dripping blood with her name under it. Hubbard has been raised by her grandmother since she was 2 months old because her father is in prison and her mother is unable to care for her, Taylor said. www.journal-news.com/news/content/n...8missing_s.html
