I'm a newspaper reporter with The Press of Atlantic City in New Jersey. I wrote a story Monday, Nov. 21, about a group that released a report that shows the amount of money NJ wasted the last 20 some years on paying the legal costs to pursue the death penalty. I stumbled upon your Web site and would like to speak with you guys a little about it. ..
I'll start off by emailing a few questions first. How long have you been offering the penpal service to inmates? Where did the idea come from?
Why are you opposed to the death penalty? Do you have any personal experiences that led to your decision? How many death row inmates do you know, correspond with or have met personally? What can you say about the way they interact with you? Do they vary in attitudes? If so, how? Most people prefer death penalty inmates to be neither seen nor heard. Yet you want to help them lead more fulfilling lives (I presume). Why? Do you often come across people who despise what you are doing? What do you say to them? You have two death row inmates from New Jersey using your penpal service. What would you say to people, perhaps the families of their victims, who think what you're doing is bad? Have you ever communicated with the New Jersey inmates? Do you know how many people write to them as a result of your Web site? What common traits do you find with inmates throughout the country? Do they take responsibility or mostly claim innocence? Are they at peace with their lives, regretful, cynical?
Also are Tracy and Dave a couple. or friends ?
